Saw Admiral Hewitt, who as usual cannot decide anything and is full of querolous reasons for failure.
Saw Tedder, who is a great promiser, but I don't wholly trust him. He seems to me more interested in producing an independent air force ... than in winning the war...
Told Gairdner that I thought he had been unduly criticized. It cheered him up and may help us ...
We could not get a special plane so had to come home on the courier. This is due to British influence on Spaatz. I will write a letter to Hughes asking for a plane [of his own].
