So im writing a character who is autistic and somewhat based on my own life. I have not been diagnosed but I have a strong suspicion that I'm on the spectrum. That being said can autistic characters get sensory overload from smells? also, how do they normally calm down? Mine normally finds a quiet corner and messes with a stim toy but idk if this works most of the time
Autistic characters and real autistics alike most certainly can go into sensory overload from smells! Sensory overload in general can be caused by one specific sense or by multiple, depending on the autistic or the situation. (Example: I get overloaded by nothing but noise a lot.)
It is important to remember that someone who went into sensory overload from a smell is also going to have trouble with the other sensory input around them. Once you're at that point, even if, say, tactile input usually doesn't bother you, it probably will now.
And that way of calming down could definitely work. It's different for different autistics, but it sounds like your character is doing the following:
trying to get away from the bad sensory experience
using good sensory input (via stimming) to calm down
That's definitely a procedure a lot of us follow when trying to stop/calm an overload, though how we do that can be different. (Like, I'll listen to a podcast with the lights off; another autistic might have a meltdown and then find somewhere isolated afterward; yet another autistic might nest and interact with their special interest.)
It's also worth thinking about how they act during the overload, before they're able to get themself to a place where they can calm down. Do they meltdown or shutdown? Do they get angry, sad, irritated? Do they cry, scream, go quiet? It may be different depending on the situation, or how they've learned to cope.
I hope that helps a bit! It seems you're already on the right track, I've just give a few things to consider.
queer anxiety culture is being scared of telling people your queer and neurodivergent headcanons out of fear people will think it's "too much"
I don’t think they would be too much, I love those headcanons. They are so fun to hear. If people think that they are too much, who cares, it’s your headcanon :)
goggles i. i gotta know. what are your pronouns
Huh? What's that,,,?
have you considered rider and army in a qpr but like. they're alright with dating as well (which is why we have qpr armrai but still gorai and alarmy). This is just a headcanon ive had for a bit and wanted to share-
Oooh it's quite interesting! As a multishipper i love to explore all sorts of angles on ships and an armrai has always seemed super sweet qpr wise! They're both a sort of analytical kind of character in their own ways and w my hc of friendship-team-breakup-makeup as a sort of timeline with rider, army, aloha and mask, that would make things quite interesting when rider and army begin to mend relationships! And i think it would make a strong qpr! (And as always my blig desc rings ever true in turf wars! POLYCULE! ATTACK, KILL!)
So, I'm a bi person (who, bi the way, is totally on pan's side in the whole "is pansexuality biphobic and transphobic" discourse, yall are vaild) and I kind of wanted to know if I could reblog your stuff for my pan followers? I know your things are directed towards pan people in particular, but I really just want to know if it's alright.
of course you can reblog my stuff! anyone can. i'm not one of those "don't even think about interacting with posts in any way if you don't share my identity" people.
Oh hey. About the clip of Lizzie and Scott singing from her episode: They have both said they do not want their song re-uploaded. I have no idea if this should be applied to Tumblr, but just to be safe, please take it down. (You can check the description of Lizzie's episode if you need proof)
yup, i've been informed already dw !! i've already taken the post down, it's just that it might still be in circulation because reblogs aren't deleted even if the source is gone unfortunately. /nm
im 5"3 do i count at a midsized person
