I reckon this new beautiful Galizan flick ain't having not even near half the promotion a regular movie where the rtve got to have a say in would have if it was in Spanish/about a spanish esencial historical figure, even when they (as always) cut out almost if not all the important political (independentist, galizan nacionalist, communist... ) views this beloved man fought for.
Still, this is a flick I highly recommend starting with it is in galego. Real galego; with our differences, accents and influences within the language. 100% filmed in Galiza.
To really know Castelao (father of o galeguismo) I recommend to read him directly. But this flick shows a very intimate Castelao besides the political one (the tiny, faint hints the movie has still pretty nice) The shy Castelao, the artist, the human. Our paisán. Which I highly enjoyed as well💜
I trusted this flick EVEN knowing rtve and a Xunta got involved (that's always bad y'all) 'cause I know some of the people and historians who worked in it a bit, and know for a fact most of them are galeguistas)
Antes de Nós* (Before Nós[Us])
*Nós (1920-1936) was a iconic Galizan political magazine (and a group of authors) whom fought for the galego language and for our Nation and its rights, which were near none.
Remember Castelao got exiled and died with the deep pain of longing to see his land once again, which he never got to.
