Scenes from the Galloping Ghost arcade in Chicago
I wish someone would dump the ROM and disc image for the cancelled prototype Beavis and Butthead arcade game so that it can be emulated and doesn't become lost media and so people can make their own reproduction cabinets for it! 🕹️🥺💜
Currently, the only way to play this game is to go to one of the few places that have a prototype cabinet like Galloping Ghost..
Their other unreleased prototype games like Primal Rage II and Tattoo Assassins have been dumped and emulated and I've seen reproduction cabinets made for Tattoo Assassins for example! I'd like to make home arcade versions of them some day!
I wanted to show off the size of Galloping Ghost without getting a bunch of people's faces on camera so here's a shaky video where I walked through maybe 1/3 of the regular arcade building. There's an additional building a block away for pinball machines but we didn't stop there.
Some of the best arcade art I have seen
"I know I didn't grow up with arcades, but ... I enjoy talking with my dad about it and it's just something we bonded over," says one 17-year-old player.
Industry-watchers say the number of arcades in the U.S. has been growing over the past five years, and that's creating demand for new, but old-fashioned games.
"The reason why people come to an arcade, there's a different social element than just playing it at home," says Doc Mack, the owner of Galloping Ghost, one of the largest video-game arcades in the world.
Summer 2017 was kind to me, despite the Nazis.
There are some bizarre arcade titles at Galloping Ghost. I tried to see them all, but it isn't physically possible in an hour or so.
