So tired of FFXV (Steam) crashing on launch again...

After trying out many fixes (e.g. lowering graphics settings, verifying game file integrity, changing the pagefile, giving ffxv special permissions, deleting mods/other games to free up space), I realised the problem was with my PS4 controller.

The game kept crashing when the controller was already plugged in (before launch) - more precisely, when I set the controller as the audio output device. What's weird is I never had this issue in the past >_>

In the end, the game didn't crash when I plugged the controller without changing the audio settings. Alternatively, starting the game with kb+m and only connecting the controller after loading a save file also worked. (But the latter always leads to my PC/Steam not displaying the PS controller buttons, which is annoying.)

P.S. I was testing something with one of the DLCs. So getting through the main title screen, only to crash while trying to launch the DLC was so frustrating. And a huge waste of time =_=

Curious question

I’ve never been able to use DX11 in XIV since it dropped. Every time I teleport in game while running DX11 the game crashes pretty much immediately. The same is true for loading screens when zoning into dungeons. With SE dropping DX9 support once 5.0 comes I am getting a bit worried about fixing this issue. Has anyone else run into this problem? Have any solutions been found? I’ve done google searches but so far I’ve only run into people having this issue but no real resolutions save one which was about turning surround sound off. I checked my sound settings and I don’t see any options for surround 7.1 anywhere so maybe I don’t have it. I am on Windows 7 if that helps. Any suggestions are welcome, thank you!

re Fix for TS2 crashes

Further to my recent posts requesting help for my TS2 crashing, it’s difficult to be certain it’s stopped because it feels like murphy’s law that as soon as I’m like “it’s stopped! *\o/*” it will crash again, but I managed to play three households’ rotations and had no crashes, so it’s certainly doing better than it was?

This would be down to @prettysyrupy ‘s suggestion of using a feature Origin has to repair (I guess any) game you own from them by the click of a button, which I had honestly never heard of before. As far as I can tell all my saves remained fine, no issues there.

So anyone else having problems, you may choose to give that a go, but just to warn you: it does reset configurations. By which I mean, if you have had to do odd things to get TS2 to work on your (comparatively modern) computer properly (like re-enabling edge smoothing and getting it to accept screen sizes larger than 800x600), you’re probably going to have to do those again. It wasn’t really a problem, I just googled how I sorted those issues before, but it was a bit of a pain in the ass, especially when I wasn’t certain it had even helped, but it did (probably, it seems).

Other than my game crashing on me (I think I have bad cc cause it was fine before 😬) I have had a nice smooth game play with these three which I’m very surprised about as I have quite a bit of cc in their house! 🤗
