The game state of our UNOmod is the cards in place for the "board" and what the colors/values those cards are, whose turn it is to place different cards on the board, what changes are being made and will be made before the body moves. The game view is the knowledge of each independent player and what they have seen during their turn "awake" as well as the assumptions they make of the other game players. The "avatar" in our game is a folded card, considering we were unable to use anything but cards for the game- this folded card represents the body, or Balto our character who suffers from multiple personality syndrome. It is really difficult to figure out what is going on in our game until it is being played, considering all the players can see up to that point is a set-up of face down cards with one face-up card in the very center. Because of the face-up card, however, players may understand that this is some sort of starting point since it is the only part of the board that is differentiated. They may also figure that the game has no specific end point when looking at the board due to the face that there is no designated spot to reach. There wasn't really a better way to get the point of the game across because the game itself is based on secrecy. The players are aware by looking at the player dictation cards (the role cards) that each person will have their own part in the game. It could be more recognizable if we would have been able to make our own cards with the names of each personality so players would know that they will be playing a specific role. Mechanics: The mechanics to Faces of Balto are as follows- Setup: The game will begin with the avatar on the face-up card in the middle of the board. Each player will choose a role card out of the pile to decide which personality they play. Each card has a specific role and players must follow that role's dictations. Victory Conditions: The game is won when Corruption is defeated or when Corruption has become the last player standing along side the body. Progression of Play: The mediator (body of Balto) will announce which player goes first. The game is turn-based starting with Corruption, then Courage, Logic, Serenity, and lastly Ambition. Player Actions: Players each have different actions. The mediator, or body, announces the times and will perform the move that the other players vote on. Corruption next sets trap cards.Courage sets a trap for Corruption. Logic views a card. Serenity picks a card and may choose to discard it for a different card. Ambition can switch the positions of two cards. Game Views: The games views will change for every player at different moments- Ambition will have the most current awareness of what is happening with the board because they have the ability to perform their task last. Yet Corruption and the others may not necessarily know what is on the board at any given time other than when they perform their task on the board. Our Game Dynamic is Survival or Elimination- Where players are either trying to survive till the end or are fighting to eliminate other players. Their is a different goal for different players. The game goal and the game theme go hand-in-hand. Balto is torn mainly between opposing sides that cannot harmonize- Corruption and the other personalities are conflicting. Corruption's goal is to become the main personality by killing off the other personalities off. The goal of the other players is just to survive and get rid of Corruption so Balto can live in peace.
