I just finished the manga of Hunter x Hunter, and am on the Chimera ant arc of the anime! What are your thoughts on Meruem and Komugi? I'd love to hear your thoughts on their dynamic.
i don’t see it as romantic at all but i do find the deep connection they share to be INCREDIBLY powerful and i cried over it not once but twice throughout the course of the arc. despite not liking meruem initially, he ended up becoming not only my favorite villain of the series but one of my favorite villains of all time and all of that was thanks to his relationship with komugi and how that caused him to grow and change as a person. komugi herself is wonderful and probably my 2nd favorite girl in hxh and it’s interesting to see how her growth, while much more subtle than meruem’s, fosters the connection between them. it’s one of the real highlights of the arc for me, rivaled only by gon’s breakdown during the palace invasion subarc and killua’s emotional journey throughout the arc as a whole. in short, not romantic but very wonderful and moving
