I am very thrilled to present a very special work of mine out on Bandcamp Day (Dec.3rd) throught the CLIKNO label: Berlin Gamelan
“Berlin Gamelan” is inspired by Aaron Taylor Kuffner´s Gamelatron, which you definitely should check out, and the minimal techno concept of the clicks & cuts era - Remember the genre-defining compilation series on Mille Plateaux!
It is a seven-track deep trip of transcendental techno equally exploring atmosphere, sound and rhythm with an outstanding artwork by Edouard Tandjaoui.
Berlin Gamelan has a special story behind the scenes: It was around 2007 when Zemi17 aka Aaron Taylor Kuffner and me crossed paths. Zemi17 had posted some unusual-sounding techno tracks with Gamelan sounds on Soundcloud. After just a few chats we were tuned into a cross-atlantic wavelength. Taylor then sent over a sample pack of field recordings he just took in Indonesia, where he had studied the Gamelan music.
In 2010 we met accidentaly at the Boom Festival in Portugal. There Taylor presented his Gamelatron, a robotic Gamelan ensemble and kinetic sound installation. Fascinated and highly motivated I returned to Berlin, grabbed his audio samples and began work on what became the Berlin Gamelan album.
I am very happy that it is now seeing the light of day after ten years.
Enjoy your deep listening trip Thanks for your passion and staying in tune, Bogdan aka Dr.Nojoke
