After four weeks of games testing, some of my thoughts:
Everyone is friendly and willing to help
Until the storage system went down, you had all the documentation you needed to do the test cases
You have multiple benches and each bench has 6 positions - position 4 is Schrodinger's Position. You either have a lot of MP tests to run, or barely any
I work in the Microsoft building, yet none of the computers I’m on have a genuine version of Windows + MS Office Suite
You’re hardly ever working on the same game - titles are in for 1 or 2 days, and odds are even if you’re there both days you’ll likely be switched to a different bench/game
Games with long unskippable cutscenes are bad for testing
A bug that is replicate-able is good; one that randomly occurs once is bad
I hate MOBAs
I also hate sports games that presume you know all the ins and outs of the sport’s rules
You do not want to hear the words “we’ve found a major bug”, especially when it’s followed up with “you need to progress 6 hours into the game to reach it”. This means everyone needs to bull rush to that point to see if the bug still occurs. If you don’t get there by end of day, guess who’s doing overtime?
The only bug that truly matters is one that causes a game crash. So long as the game doesn’t send you back to the home screen or Windows desktop (or otherwise majorly impede your progression), it’s not urgent.
Games will come in for retesting due to content updates, added DLC, and additional stuff
It is really weird playing games in advance of their release, doubly so when I see news articles about said games
Due to the above, security is tight, especially when you have the newest console version to test on
