I'm Honestly Disgusted
I started playing Fortnite in late 2018, and by 2020 it became a regular part of my life. It’s my current form of escapism—especially because of Hawk. Save the World has a story and characters I’ll never forget.
Now, there are plans to bring Harry Potter into Fortnite. Another collab that feels out of place is one thing—but this is a new low. For those who don’t know, J.K. Rowling has used her earnings from Harry Potter to fund transphobic efforts in the UK. If this collab goes through, Fortnite may end up indirectly contributing to that.
If you play Fortnite or know someone who does, I urge you to consider the following:
Don’t buy the battle pass. Instead, consider donating that amount to a reputable trans rights organization or individuals.
Email Epic Games’ customer support. Here’s the link for your convenience. Remember to stay cordial to Epic staff, including customer support.
Block and report transphobes. Don’t engage with their posts. Don’t feed them. They will try to gaslight you.
On Twitter, reply to @Fortnite, @FortniteStatus, @TimSweeneyEpic, and @MarkRein. Keep it short and use the hashtags: #NoHarryPotterInFortnite and #NoTransphobiaInFortnite.
Most importantly, don’t harass Harry Potter fans. Many may not be aware of this. Educate them. Console them if the news is upsetting. Unless proven otherwise, they are not bad people.
I understand the boycott of Hogwarts Legacy didn’t succeed, but we can learn from it. This time, we act with clarity, unity, and purpose.
Stand and Fight!
