GAP Trail Day 2 – Friday, May 26 – 53 miles from Confluence, PA to West Newton, PA It rained overnight so the second day’s ride was on a sticky, muddy trail. At about 30 miles it really started feeling like work but we got in to West Newton by early afternoon. We had pizza for dinner and our innkeepers at the Bright Morning Bed & Breakfast gave us a couple complementary glasses of wine to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.
All that light stuff is sand from the trail. Big bike wash morning followed by mowing.
GAP Trail Day 3 – Saturday, May 27 – 34 miles from West Newton, PA to Pittsburgh More rain overnight and throughout the morning made for a wet ride through puddles and around fallen trees. The last 17 miles of the trail into Pittsburgh are paved so that made for a nice ride. We arrived at the trail’s western terminus at Point State Park around 12:30 in the afternoon. This was such a wonderful trip!
GAP Trail Day 1 – Thursday, May 25 – 62 miles from Cumberland, MD to Confluence, PA We arrived at the Pittsburgh Amtrak station at 4:30am for a 5:20am train that didn’t actually end up leaving until 6:50am. We had a beautiful ride uphill 23.5 miles to the Eastern Continental Divide. It was all downhill from there to Cumberland and a nice soft bed at the Smith House Inn.
