I can't figure out if this bonsai is dead or not. Many of the pokey parts coming off the branches look dead near the branch. I pull off the ones that are ready. Otherwise some of the spokes look kind of green but mostly yellow but maybe it's supposed to look that way... I don't know what kind of tree it is. The marker just said 'bonsai'.
Its journey as far as I know is that it was in a store before my bf brought it home for me as a get well gift and we proceeded to deny it of sunlight and regular water and basically starve it because we're monsters.
Anyway, like 4 or 5 months later, I'm making zen on my balcony and low and behold already had a bonsai, but I think it is struggling. I've started watering it "daily" and have started trimming the dead. I've noticed the roots are peaking out the top a bit and added more soil and they came out again with more watering.
So I need help. Should I replant this baby? I've read that you can soak the roots in warm water for like a few hours or something and then replant it and continue care but I don't want to do it if it's not worth it. I'm totally fine with buying a new one but I don't want to throw it away and kill it if it's very much alive.
Thank you in advance, green thumb Tumblr
