so I’m rewatching rtte rn and y’know how a lot of the stuff Hiccup makes has Deathsong amber in it? Yeah, how the fuck is he getting that??? Like is doing supply trips to Melody Island and just collecting as much as he can while the dragon goes off to eat? You could say he’s getting it from Garff but like I think he was making like Deathsong amber googles before they rescued him. Has he like tamed and trained some random Deathsong and just not told anyone because he only uses it for it’s amber??? The riders never react to mention of him using it, so I have to assume they’re in on whatever Deathsong amber harvesting thing Hiccup has going on. Hiccup Haddock tell me your secrets.

edit: this is explained in s5ep1 “Living on the Edge” where it’s confirmed they just do go to Melody Island and collect as much as they can. Mystery Solved.

The Death Song is the coolest dragon in HTTYD fight me.

Spitting liquid AMBER that hardens to trap prey that it later breaks out and eats alive is the most metal shit this series has ever created barring the Flightmare. There’s only so much you can do with firepower in a series dedicated to dragons so HTTYD breaking out of that fence and saying “they can have whatever” is the best decision ever. From spitting boiling water to being a megaphone that lives in the ocean I truly think HTTYD dragons are so, so much cooler than most dragons in other series.

Anyways Death Song is my fav ever bc its usage of coloration and song to be alluring only to literally Jurassic Park the fuck out of you is SO FUCKING COOL. Also the counter being really really really hot flame is both balanced and hard to come by. Most dragons are trapped up to their necks so they can’t free themselves on their own and only about half or a little more of the dragons in the series actually attack with fire. It’s a pretty genius trapping method. Not to mention the practical uses Death Song amber allows.

I imagine the way it keeps amber for usage is by extracting and storing tree resin and then hyper-pressurizing and superheating it inside of their bodies to make liquid amber that they then spit. It is genuinely the most impressive thing ever IMO. The formation of amber takes millions of years so the implication that (barring Garff being able to spit amber straight out of the egg) they make amber in their bodies in FRACTIONS of the time is so so so genuinely metal.

Communicating by song is also awesome and I want to see more of it.
