Gargoyle version of Inuyasha or "Ishiyasha" (stone forest spirit) For gargoyle versions of the rest of the cast, check out the post here. Here's a full list of things I used as inspiration for these gargoyle designs. Because gargoyles themselves came from the myth of Gargouille, a French river dragon slain by a saint and whose decapitated head was then used as a roof gutter, I used Chi When as one of my inspirations.
Chi When is one of the nine children of the Chinese dragon king and was a dragon fish hybrid used as a roof decoration and is said to control rain.
The Japanese Shachihoko (or Shachi) is similar, a being with the head of a dragon and the body of a carp being perched on top of roofs that controls rain.
Another being I used as inspiration for these designs was the Nio, stone guardians of Buddhist temples. Especially with their costume designs.
And for Miroku's cursed hand/scars, I thought kintsukuroi was a cool idea. Kintsukuroi is the process of repairing broken pottery with gold filling, making something that was broken more beautiful. It's not a perfect one to one comparison and I am not an expert or at all from the Japanese culture, but it was fun to research and putting together a few similar archetypes to create some fanart. Again, letting my autism show through in this one 😆
