What if part of the reason Garroth believes he failed Zenix is because he knew he was a shadow knight?

Like obviously he doesnt KNOW Zenix is a shadow knight specifically, I doubt Garroth even knew what a shadow knight was b4 the whole Laurance debacle, but he knew something wasn’t quite right with Zenix. The kid couldn’t control his emotions, and sometimes when things got to be too much his once-brown eyes would shift to red. Some nights, Garroth would wake up to Zenix tossing in bed, trapped in some nightmare. When Garroth would shake him awake, his eyes would have that same red and hue and he’d look so scared. So, Garroth knew that something was wrong, but he never once tried to figure out what. When Garroth found Zenix half-dead and alone one night on patrol, it was clear to Garroth that the kid had a past that he could never return to. Garroth was all too familiar with it, and the need to bury the parts of yourself linked to your former life. Garroth figured that Zenix’s eyes were his link to that life, as he always seemed so terrified when they shifted hue, so he never once brought them up.

But he knew Zenix was hurting. He knew there was something about him that wasn’t quite human. But he never tried to reach out to the kid, to figure out what he was going through. He could have helped Zenix, could have supported him and protected him and stopped him from betraying Phoenix Drop. But he didn’t, and Garroth will never forgive himself for it.

I have sooo many thoughts about PDH Garroth and Zenix. Like I haven't watched PDH since it came out way back when and ik they don't interact in it AT ALL but oh my god I have so many thoughts about them. I added a cut bc I didn't want to be annoying but I have soooo many hcs

They'd meet through some school-run tutoring program, bc u know. Garroth is Zenix's mentor. It's not that Zenix is dumb, the content just doesn't come quickly/easily to him. It takes forever for him to grasp it, but once he has it down, he has it DOWN. He's just never really had the incentive to put the work in, so he is failing a class or two and gets put in mandatory tutoring, and he is PISSED. Wdym he has to stay after school and do even more work when he could be bumming around with his friends? On top of that, his tutor is Garroth freaking Ro'Maeve. Surprisingly enough, they make a good duo. Garroth can deal with Zenix's frustration and temper tantrums, and tutoring Zenix is the one time Garroth can really act freely. There's no one watching him there, and Zenix has no ties to any of Garroth's friends or family. He's also just one really entertaining kid. He says he hates school, but he will spend an hour working through a single math problem because he's too stubborn to give up.

Garroth also absolutely brings extra food/snacks to school to give to Zenix during tutoring bc he knows he doesn't get enough at home. Zenix has never once thanked him or acknowledged it, but he always eats them.
