Gary Heffern: here's a poster where he opened for me in seattle on his first tour. and a short story i wrote after chris cornell died. hope you enjoy.
i am not sponsored by anyone. here is a post i did about chris cornell and a story about jeff along with a poster of the show i did with jeff. feel free to post if you like. it was jeff's first show in seattle. i think his fans would appreciate it. OH MAN... SO MANY MEMORIES. LOVE TO Peter Cornell, and to all his family and friends. and fans. i remember when he first got signed and asked me for some advice i said to him "just remember to be nice to people. especially your fans. and enjoy and appreciate what is coming. don't worry about the naysayer's who will call you a sellout. stay true to your friends, they are the ones who will not judge you". about a year later i was at a show with my old dog butch...i think it was at kitsap county and they let me in with the dog. i was in the crowd, and get a tap on the shoulder and there's a guy standing there asking me if i am who i am and i say "yes"...and then he says "well, who is butch because i have backstage passes for the both of you". he laughed when i pointed at the dog. that's chris for you in a nutshell. so many stories...we worked together at rays boathouse. i gave him his future wife susan's phone number... he sang backups for me countless times, and we were in the band The Center for Disease Control Boys together. OH MAN...the days we would go to a beach and swim and talk about music and he would always probe me with the question "tell me everything you did wrong in the business" and the answers would go on for hours. his refusal to listen to the grateful dead, until one day i showed up at his house with "workingman's dead" and we spent hours playing track by track that album and meat puppets ll. and again, about a year or two later him saying to me "i finally went to see the dead, and i "get" it. oh on, and on...he wanted me to start a band with his brother peter...but i couldn't do it because peter was such a good singer. oh, and there's the time i did a show with jeff buckley and told him he should meet my friend chris cornell because he reminded me of him.... and then running into chris again years later after jeff died, and we talked about him and how close chris had gotten to him... and on... and on... and on... this one hurts.. bad.
