The senate has voted to close the Groningen gas fields permanently after 61 years, removing the last obstacle to the shutdown. Mines minister Hans Vijlbrief said the gas taps could be switched off as early as May 1, sooner than the originally planned date of October 1, which is the start of the next “gas year”. Senators had originally been due to vote on the law formalising the closure two weeks ago, but several parties, including VVD, PVV and BBB, called for a delay because of concerns about energy security. The decision sparked fury in the northern province, where local officials accused parliament of backtracking on its promise to end gas drilling, which has triggered more than 1,600 earthquakes in the last 40 years and damaged 85,000 buildings.

A short respite for Groningen if the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) stops delivering warm temperatures to NW Europe. Given that quite a few things are happening earlier than predicted, that might be sooner than expected.
The closure is good new for the climate, but make no mistake; this was done solely because of the damage done by the earthquakes. If there were none, the extraction would continue.

OOC Blockchain Consortium Completes Blockchain Pilot Test To Automate Payments For Oilfield Water-Handling
The OOC Oil & Gas Blockchain Consortium has completed a blockchain pilot test to automate payments for oilfield water-handling, as the process of oilfield water-handling requires the management of the huge amount of water extracted and injected during the process of oil and gas extraction.
It has been reportedby Reuters that the blockchain solutions implemented during the test cut short the…

The Dutch government wants to halt gas extraction in Groningen much earlier than originally planned. Minister Eric Wiebes of Economic Affairs and Climate now thinks that gas extraction in the earthquake-ridden province can be stopped by mid-2022, instead of in 2030, NOS reports.
Good news even if it was not done because of the need to reduce consumption of fossil fuels although we’ll be told it was, at least in part. FYI the extraction is done under normal circumstances and not fracking. The earthquakes are caused by the sinking ground.
AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - A 3.4 magnitude earthquake hit the north Dutch region of Groningen, home to one of Europe's largest natural gas fields
Another eartquake and still the gas extraction continues.
This one was close to my home and my brother felt it. He was lying in his bed, shaking from left to right, almost feeling like he was drunk, he told me.
When is this going to stop?
Rwanda Signs $400 Million Deal With Gasmeth To Produce Methane Gas
Rwandan government said on Tuesday it had signed a 400 million dollars deal with Gasmeth Energy Company to produce bottled gas from Lake Kivu- known as one of Africa’s “killer lakes” that emits such dense clouds of methane. #AfricanNewsNetwork
Rwandan government said on Tuesday it had signed a 400 million dollars deal with Gasmeth Energy Company to produce bottled gas from Lake Kivu- known as one of Africa’s “killer lakes” that emits such dense clouds of methane.
The project would suck gas from the lake’s deep floor and bottle it for use as fuel. And, in turn, would help prevent toxic gas bubbling to the surface.
Rwanda already has two…
