ah, hello again, repeat Road Trip items...or, at least, locations.  from the '93 list:

279.  What is written on the big tire off I-94 in Allen Park, MI? (3pts)

i'm familiar with that tire since i've been out to metro Detroit many times over the last three and a half years or so.  it's definitely "Uniroyal" written on that tire...easy to remember, since i frequently refer to it as the Huge Uniroyal Tire Off The Highway.  however, that giant tire made an appearance in the 2010 list:

93.  While inflating a flat tire along I-94, Skeletor accidentally enlarges it to world-record size. [6 points]

i remember this item well not only because i did it, but also because my familiarity with the giant roadside tire saved us from missing an item.  the morning we left, Grandpa Sam had plotted out pretty much everything on the road trip, but i remember there being a note by the tire saying that he wasn't sure what that was, or where it was.  fortunately, since i knew there were other items in Metro Detroit, it was pretty clear to me that they meant The Huge Uniroyal Tire Off The Highway.

alas, this isn't one of the pictures archived on facebook from that year.  however, i remember it being a little harrowing to do...there wasn't really a good place to pull over, just a little shoulder to pull into.  [i guess it's not a roadside attraction that's meant to be visited, so much as marveled at from the car.]  so, we pulled over there, and it was a bit scary getting out of the car since we were so close to the other speeding vehicles.  it was fun, though, to pantomime pumping up a tire to such ridiculous proportions.

133. Look, Maria, this is ScavHunt. While I'd love to spend a whole day frolicking through the Alps with you and the von Trapp children, I simply don't have the time. You're going to have to take your Do-Re-Mi and speed it up. A lot. Start at the very beginning (a very good place to start) and perform the entire number as fast as you can, including as much of the appropriate choreography as possible-the carriage ride, skipping gaily about the fountain, step-jumping, etc. Make sure that all seven children are wearing the play-clothes you made from those tatty old curtains. All performances must be live. [1.6 points per 10 seconds under 5 minutes]

this item was a blast to do -- and Janice is awesome at organizing group performance items.

this item was also a collaboration between GASH and FIST; i thought the collaboration between teams on a performance was pretty fabulous.

i can haz Stradivarius?

in 2010, i went out on the road trip.  we finished up our last road trip item, which involved disco dancing outside the prison from the Shawshank Redemption.  i was determined not to waste those last hours on the way home, and started flipping through the list looking for things to do.  my eyes fell upon an item:

75.  Antonius Stradivarius Cremonensis Faciebat Anno 1660-1720. On campus. [90 points for a violin, 125 points for a cello, 150 points for a viola]

i cracked up, and someone else in the car asked me why.  i declared that i didn't think anyone was ever going to get this item, and read it aloud.

at which point James, one of the other folks on the road trip, whips out his phone.  he calls his friend, who is a violin dealer, who had an honest-to-God Stradivarius cello in his possession.  he arranged for a time that GASH could bring a judge over to see the instrument.

i could hardly believe it...and part of me still hardly does.  this remains one of the most magical and flabbergasting moments out of all the scav hunts i've done.
