Gatekeeping kpop and anime
Popular or unpopular idk opinion
I love that nowadays more people seemto be enjoying kpop and anime, because it's always cool to be able to talk about the things you love with more people, right?
Well kind of.
I like how more folks are starting to enjoy the same things I do, but it really icks me to see people boast about how this new thing they love is super cool when that same thing is the one they've mocking for years.
It icks me to see people who have no idea on how to behave on fandom spaces suddenly flood them because it's like they are destabilizing an environment that has evolved independently for ages.
Also, I really, really dislike how usually more people getting into smt = that something being turned into "popular" slop to be consumed by the masses. I am tired of everything being "aesthetic" because now companies and just, everyone in general feels like it has to be that way to cater to the people who've just joined in now. Give me recognizeable merch, not just a black plain t-shirt with the smallest naruto logo known to man plasted on the top right. It cannot. Be. That. Hard. Added to that, I want to rip my hair every time I see bershka release an anime collection because. That's just a big, popular, fast-fashion corporation making profit off a series I love when they themselves have no idea of the series they're making merch off. Call me whatever you want but I refuse to get my anime merch from Inditex.
On the kpop side: I prefer it when songs are in Korean. There. That's it.
Logically I know that they write English songs so they can cater to a more global audience, esp with more people joining in the fandom who might have more trouble with korean lyrics, HOWEVER.
English songs just don't sound the same to me. Most singers are not native English speakers, so to me they sound more comfortable singing in Korean since that's their mother tongue. And I kind of feel it when they sing it. The songs don't feel the same.
Not a kpop group but take Måneskin for example. Zitti e buoni just sounds better (to me at least) than Supermodel. And I don't mean that one is better than the other in terms of like, rythm and such. But the first one has a more natural flow imo than the second.
So yeah. Please make more kpop songs in korean, it's actually really fun (for language nerds like me and other folks) to memorize lyrics in another language, please bring bridges back, and please make songs 3 min long. Thank you
