Long before the internet gave us 24/7 access to celebrities, we had "Your friendly Neighborhood Record Co." to hand-deliver folk icons like Melanie. She looks exactly how 1971 felt: slightly grainy, extremely soulful, and sporting hair that likely received very little attention. This was the peak of "Brand New Key" mania, a song about roller skating that managed to be both innocent and bafflingly suggestive to anyone over the age of twenty.
