The Gentrification story of the aloe plant that wouldn’t : by William Salas The builders lay their flat plot. For the New housing project that they got Right next to our little 50th art lot An Aloe screamed yo! Help me Will! They don’t want me here. I’ll be land fill. I said damn you talk?,(how do you know my name’s Will?) Ok just chill... Aloe was like ! Help! there’s no time! I got baby plants homie this is a crime! I said: You belong here! You make the hood shine! Don’t trip aloe bro here hold my beer! I went to the builder with a hustle so real. I’ll take that aloe I’ll use it to heal I’m ready dude I have my shovel! I was almost down to a grovel, The builder scorned no, no need for your trouble... he left in the claw monster to continue his mission. I thought aloe bro was lost what a stupid decision, But he came back in the claw with a surgeons precision! Scooped him up and his fam all in one take! Took him out of his land just like a stake. Just dropped him off over the fence like it was cheesecake. We saved the aloe wrangled him up like a steer. Mrs aloe popped out and said thank you dear!!Were gonna stop talking cus its getting weird. I said no worries aloe fam I got your back! Don’t let anyone take you off track! This is your community don’t let them attack! I couldn’t have done it without The builders, Kim, Nadia and help from the children. Aloe bro is still home on 50th street holding position. This time it was an aloe plant it’s usually culture, That gets rooted out without any closure. And in goes your regular white neighborhoods grocer. #aloefam #gentrification #artlife #poetry #itjuststartedrhyming #aloebro #safespaces #gatheringspaces #artspaces #spaces #ucproject #immyownblessing #theinkandpaint #artlife #50thandImperial #immyownblessing #thehustleisreal #L #101fiftiethstreet #fiftieth #greenthumbsandpaintedhands #50thartlot (at Imperial Avenue Car Care Center)
