Putting together a top 10 of anything is really hard, let alone it having to do with music. I tried putting some thought into this and I was able to narrow it down to 10 guitarists I really enjoy listening to play. I'm not saying that these are the 10 most gifted guitarists of all time, but these are 10 guitarists I love listening to. The list can change order at anytime, but below is how I would currently rate my fav guitarists at the present time. 10. Neal Schon (Journey) - I grew up on Journey and to be honest I am kind of embarassed that I do like them sometimes. But, you can not deny this guys guitar shredding skills. His solo on Faithfully is amazing. 9. Eddie Van Halen (Van Halen) - Just another awesome guitarist and shredder. Just listen to the song Eruption and you will see what I mean, 8. Mike McCreedy (Pearl Jam) - I got into PJ really late because I wasn’t into the whole “grunge” thing when I was younger. I’ve only really been into this band the last 5 years and I think along with Eddie Vedder’s voice, McCreedy’s guitar playing are the reasons why I enjoy this band. The ending solo for Alive is just fantastic. 7. Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode is a great song, but Chuck honestly has so many great songs. He is one of the pioneers for rock music and helped bring it to the forefront. His ringing sound with his guitar is just awesome. 6. David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) - Along with his voice his guitar work is just as beautiful and solid. Seems like he never misses a note and solos on Comfortably Numb and Shine On You Crazy Diamond are just great. Love his acoustic solo in the intro with Wish You Were Here. Watch him do it live and see him sing along with it. It’s spectacluar. 5. Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave) - Tom’s sound is undistinguishable. His blending with Tom Commerford on bass is such a cool song. His guitar playing is so deep and powerful, just listen to their cover of the classic Renegades of Funk and listen to it. It meshes so well with Commerford’s bass line. 4. B.B. King - The man, the myth, the legend. B.B. was not much of a chord player but boy could he steal a show with Lucille. Love watching him play on his chair and watch is finger hit those frets and hold those notes. He knew what the blues were and you can see it in his guitar playing. He really felt what he was playing and I think that is what makes him such a legendary guitarist. 3. Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) - Never gave this guy much credit until I went and saw them last year. If you have not seen this man play live, then you are truly missing out. I think he only took one break and that was during Mick Fleetwood’s 4 minute drum solo. He was on stage and when he was he gave it his all. Watching him pluck his guitar with his fingers was unbelievable. Truly has become one of my favorite guitarists since that show. Go Your Own Way’s solo is amazing and his sonic and beautiful sound during the chorus of You Make Loving Fun is so great to listen to. 2. Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin) - One of the greatest rock bands of all time house one of rocks guitar God’s. This guy is responsible for so many classic guitar riffs like Stairway To Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, and Ramble On. I love his work on Hey Hey What Can I Do and the newly released version of In The Evening is amazing. His guitar riffs are so clear on that release. He is so much fun to listen to. 1. The Edge (U2) - Now U2 happens to be my favorite band for many reasons, but a big one is because of The Edge. He gets a lot of crap because he has been deemed as not gifted in the likes of Jimmy Page or Jimi Hendrix, but his use of delay and pedals is just amazing. Listen to songs like Bad, Pride (In The Name Of Love) and Where The Streets Have No Name. His sound is like listening to church bells on a Sunday morning. Just beautiful.
