The white flowers of the Viburnum opulus (guelder rose, crampbark, dog rowan, European cranberry tree, gatten, marsh alder, ople tree, rose elder, snowball tree, water elder, whitten tree) will be followed by translucent bright red fruits often persisting into winter. This beautiful plant was beside the site of an old croft in Scotland.
