🌳 Chipko Movement – The Hug that Saved Our Forests 🌳
Did you know the world-famous Chipko Movement actually began in Mandal village in 1973? It was led by Chandi Prasad Bhatt and his team from Dasholi Gram Swarajya Mandal (DGSM).
A year later, in 1974, the brave women of Reni village, under the inspiring leadership of Gaura Devi, hugged the trees to stop contractors from cutting them. Their peaceful protest gave the movement global fame, and Sunderlal Bahuguna took its message to the whole world.
This was not just a protest. It was a people’s fight to save their forests, water, and mountains. A hug that changed India’s environmental history forever. 🌱
