Gavner P - Now or Never

Satisfy thyself by pleasing the hearts of the masses. As most artists tend to identify themselves under a particular genre, Gavner P attempts to appeal to a variety of listeners. Regardless of your personal taste, his debut album, “Now or Never” features an ecletic collection. Whether it is house, country, rnb or indie, this man will rap to it all.
In a place where the support for music artistry is rare, Gavner produces 12 tracks of “alternative” rap. Instead of spitting rhymes about sex, violence, and addictions, his songs appear to seem almost autobiographical. From discussing individuals’ inaccurate perceptions of himself to his views of the life around him, fans will get to personally know the person behind the music.
As unique as this is, his flow may sound repetitive as you go through the album. Fortunately, his collaborations with Bryn Williams, Penny Nicholls and Carly B bring meldious contrast to his almost predictable rhythm. With the way he performs his lyrics, he may seem better suited for spoken word. In the end, the major strength of his debut are the unpredictable introductions and diverse instrumental background.
Rating: 3/5
Leading by example, this UK artist aspires to inspire others to believe in themselves and achieve their dreams. This is part of the story behind “Now or Never” and it may be the reason behind his desire to appeal to many.
Gavner P is a verstatile rapper hailing from North Wales, who we recently featured in our Artist Spotlight series not too long ago. Gavner describes the music scene in North Wales as, “lacks resources and opportunities for young aspiring artists it makes it very difficult for people to chase their dreams especially an artist in his genre.” Amandah Opoku sat down with Gavner P to discuss his latest album release “Now or Never” which is available for purchase via iTunes
AO: Hey Gavner P, it’s great to be interviewing you again! Before we kick off, introduce yourself and what your current guilty pleasure song is.
GP: My Name Is Gavmer P and I am a Alternative Urban music artist living in Manchester, UK. My current guilty pleasure song is Aerosmith - Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing, its always been a favourite of mine and always will be.
AO: You have a new album called “Now or Never” Out Now !!! what inspired you to name the record this?
GP: Yeah this is my Independent debut Album which is OUT NOW and available digitally on iTunes and other digital stores and also as a physical CD copy on www.gavnerp.com. The reason behind the title of “Now Or Never” was, I actually started writing and making music at a late stage in my life and as the saying goes, people tend to think as time goes on its always difficult for a music artist. I decided music is my passion and what I want to do so its a case of following my dreams now or I never will.
AO: Fans have only heard the title track from the upcoming record, will the rest of the songs follow suit with “Now or Never” or will there be some versatility, difference among sounds prevalent on the songs on the record?
GP: The album is a versatile mixture of tracks. Each has its own individual twist in genre with the vocals being delivered through catchy hooks and melodys using the rapping and singing techniques. Some critics who have reviewed the album so far have said its the “Pick Of Mix” Of Music Albums.
AO: This being your debut record, what was it like in the studio recording and collaborating with artists? When you began to track and write for the record, did you have an idea of what the end goal was going to be?
GP: When starting the album I wanted to make a record that could appeal to everyone, no matter what there choice and taste of genre is. This was the main idea behind the album being so versatile and having a mix of genres on it so there is at least one track on there that can appeal to each individual out there. Working in the studio is a dream and working alongside other great artists is a amazing experience.
AO: In terms of the songwriting process and ultimately choosing what songs would end up on the new record, what inspired you? And did you have difficulty choosing which songs would make the final cut?
GP: Each track I have written and recorded are a variety of experiences, visions and outlooks I have witnessed throughout my life so far added with the flavour and style of my emotions and tongue in cheek character. I feel the tracks I have chosen for this album are a good balance of each topic.
AO: The title of the album “Now or Never,” to me in sense is something that’s inspiring and motivating. From the title alone, it’s like you’re encouraging people to do something. What kind of message do you want fans to take away from “Now or Never?”
GP: Well as i am still currently a Independent artist who has always had the “Believe 2 Achieve” attitude I just would like to try help people believe in them selves and realise that if they put there minds to something and remain consistent and dedicated, nothing is impossible. I was born and raised in area where resources, facilities and opportunities lack for aspiring people within the creative arts field. you just have to think outside the box and work hard for what you really want.
AO: Your Album is OUT NOW, So……what are the rest of your plans for the year?
GP: Well I am currently giggin all over the UK pushing and promoting the album also speaking to more Artists to collaborate with and start working on some new material for all you people to enjoy.
AO: Before we end the interview, is there anything you’d like to say to your viewers and our fans?
GP: I would just like to say please check me out on my website www.gavnerp.com it has music videos and audio tracks on soundcloud. If what you see on there doesn’t quite agree with your taste then give the previews on iTunes a listen. I can guarantee what ever your choice of genre there will be at least one track on there that appeals to you and then my goal with the versatility of the album has been reached. If you like the music and feel you want to support then please do so. Believe 2 Achieve and never give up on your dreams. Gavner P

Gavner P is a verstatile rapper hailing from North Wales. An area as Gavner notes, "lacks resources and opportunities for young aspiring artists it makes it very difficult for people to chase their dreams especially an artist in his genre." However, Gavner has proven that wrong as he continues to write and release music.
For the record, please state your name and your role in the band
Gavner P: My name is Gavner P and i’m a solo music artist
What influenced you to start making music in your genre of choice?
Gavner P: I’m into all kinds of music and I always enjoyed poetry as a kid. I love how rap can take a story and tell it over a instrumental whilst in rhythm. This is why I decided to rap but still be as versatile as possible and deliver my vocals over different types of genres. I would like to think my sound appeals to more wider audiences.
What’s the music scene like in your hometown?
Gavner P: If I’m honest its not great. Theres a lot of very talented artists all across North Wales but the area lacks in resources and opportunities for aspiring music artists. This makes it hard for people to pursue there dreams. But it is getting better and hopefully with the artists that are coming through we can possibly inspire the future generations.
What sets you apart from other musicians in your scene?
Gavner P: As I come under the Rap/Urban category its very easy to be stereotyped. Urban music has come along way recently and is now very accepted in todays music but still, it does always carry that stigma around with it. A lot of people can always think it carrys anti social content and promotes violence, but thats not the case these days. Myself as an artist I’m all about tongue in cheek and trying to promote positivity. I try to be as versatile as possible and although Im a serious artist I don’t take my self to seriously and have a cheeky personality whilst on stage or in interviews etc so I think this comes across and its what draws in peoples attention.
To date, what has been your best moment as a band?
Gavner P: I have had many moments which I will always remember from playing gigs all over the UK and having people singing along to your songs and enjoying themselves, to winning international unsigned artist of the month with a Australian music magazine and also reading articles and reviews on my music in papers and blogs etc, But I think the one which stands out is performing at the 02 Arena in London in January that was an amazing experience and inspired to want the music more.
For fans hearing your music for the first time and long time fans, what do you want them to take away from your music?
Gavner P: 95% of the songs I write have a story, whether its humours, a life experience or a positive message. If it makes people smile, or they can either relate to it or know someone who can, or if it helps them with there own issues in life and possibly inspire them, I just want people to enjoy my music and hopefully help them in anyway possible.
If you could change one thing about the music scene in your town, what would you change?
Gavner P: I would love to change the resources and opportunities for young people who are looking to get involved in a creative art. I would like to give them a platform and a centre or service which could get them started. A dream and idea of mine in the future is be to work alongside a sponsor and offer some kind of service to the youth of North Wales and help them get started. I experienced how hard it was to get my profile up and running with no help and only wish I had some help, so to give back to my community and help them to realise that they can do it would be amazing.
When people recommend music they often say, if you like so and so you should definitely check them out. What other artists have you been compared to as sounding like?
Gavner P: With being versatile my genre type changes from track to track but I have had a fair few comparisons and the majority of people say Professor Green with the occasional few saying Plan B. Thats for style of artist but for performance wise and my live shows a lot say Tinie Tempah, they compare my charisma, energy and stage presence to him and his live performances.
If you were to create the ideal lineup to tour with, which artists/bands would they be?
Gavner P: I would love to play alongside any other music artist really as i appreciate and respect all artists as its a art to what they do and most are unbelivably talented. But I think for my benefit because I love there music it would shave to be a choice between Professor Green, Drake, Tinie Tempah, Eminem, Dizzee Rascal and Macklemore
Where do you see yourselves in 5 years?
Gavner P: I would like to say the biggest artist the world has ever seen haha but, in 5 years I would like to be 2 Albums in and working on my 3rd, been on a few tours and living comfortably off it. Being rich and famous would be a bonus if they ever were to come along, but its all about the music and making it for the people who enjoy it.
Before we end the interview, is there anything you’d like to say to your viewers and our fans?
Gavner P: I would just like to say please continue to show your amazing support and please follow me and keep up to date with all my future releases and projects as there is many more to come. Also don’t ever let anyone tell you something is impossible. If you want something so bad and your willing to work hard, Sacrifice and be committed and determined then you will catch your dreams. Believe 2 Achieve.
