what are your thoughts on mailee? also can I get a few good tyzula or mailee fic recommendations please🤗
mailee as a romantic ship doesn’t really resonate w me. that being said, i love the idea that they have this secret language they develop together when traveling with azula (like when they see each other for the first time, when they glance at each other when theyre dressed as kyoshi warriors and azula is talking abt trust or smth), and i hc they become each others rocks in this quite horrible situation they are in where they have basically been conscripted against their will (maybe less so for mai but for ty lee yes). the scene where mai and ty lee betray azula in boiling rock is imo possibly the best in the show and mai’s reaction to ty lee saving her is kind of heartbreaking bc like... zuko fucked off w/o a goodbye and her parents favour tom tom so she’s probs never had someone do anything so selfless on her behalf before.
i really wish we saw more of their friendship and its kind of disapointing that once zuko returns to the fire nation mai basically falls into the background. i feel like maybe if we’d seen that i might feel more attached to them as a ship but i dont feel there is much chemistry between them in the canon content

The scene flashed into her head again, four short-sharp taps, Azula flailing with her eyes wide in surprise that the pretty little acrobat had even thought of how to disobey. She placed her back against Mai’s. The implicit meaning: I trust you.
