If spring comes, can our project be right behind?
What is a good project without some background research, thought, and constant discussion? This week, our team focused on our “Project Report” where we collected ideas about our next steps and goals, and we did some research on the general framework of Global Citizenship.
We discovered that Global Citizenship Education (GCED) is a term widely used by UNESCO together with numerous institutions worldwide, aiming at a peaceful and prosperous world which is based on well informed global citizens. These citizens start as lifelong learners who value respect, ethical responsibility, freedoms, critical thinking, social justice, and sustainability both in a local and in a global perspective. These values helped specify our main goals, which we discussed with our client.
Education needs to be transformative and offer values for everyone, but no initiative comes without challenges. Global challenges such as lack of teacher capacity and training, inadequate focus on values, government resources, and diverse education systems need to be taken into account in order for the GCED to achieve success.
Next comes the more detailed design of our first meetings with the growing young global citizens, which will be touched upon in the next few days!
