Adam had gone back and forth on this gift. He was still going back and forth on this gift. It’d been almost a year since the last time he’d given Cooper a gift, and that… had not ended well. He sometimes wondered whatever cooper did with that. It was just a paperweight, but it was also beautiful. It was a shame it had been the end of what hadn’t even gotten a beginning for them.

He spotted Cooper across the crowded theater, tech and cast and crew all together celebrating the holiday season. Adam clutched the plain, white box a little closer to himself and marched determinedly up to Cooper. “Hey,” he said, nervously, smiling. “So… I know we were supposed to keep it secret, and this is a bit more than a tenner, but… Well, anyway, open it,” he encouraged, waving Cooper on.

When the other man finally opened the lightly squashed package, inside lay a long, slender scarf, almost more of a wide ribbon. It was only three or four inches wide, and dark green for most of it. A long, slender stem, but at one end, it expanded into a full, blooming rose in a brilliant shade of yellow – the other end, a quiet bud, the very tips of the unopened blossom in a deep, royal blue. Friendship, fully realized and fulfilled, with unachieved, impossible mysteries linked intrinsically together. “I know it’s… not really your style, but… perhaps you could hang it somewhere? Or decorate something with it?” Adam smiled bashfully. “I… hope you like it.”
