Envy had gotten guard duty for the larger, lower tunnels that ran under Central City. Well, actually, it wasn’t like the monstrous homunculus had much of a choice anymore. Ever since losing its shape shifting ability, this was one of the very few things it could still do and prove itself useful enough to Father that it was allowed to live. Envy carefully picked its way through the tunnels. The tunnels were large enough that Envy could move through them with relative ease, but it didn’t like certain routes where it felt cramped if it needed to turn around or change direction quickly. So far, everything was as quiet as it usually was.
Suddenly, there was some form of commotion in the level above the homunculus’ head. Envy started slightly, head whipping up to try and figure out what was going on. It had sounded like the chimera that roamed on the other side of the grates had a scuffle of some kind, before one broke away from the rest. Envy listened to the sound of foot falls on the grates above.
Until whatever had been running from the rest of the pack misstepped and accidentally knocked the grate ten feet away from where Envy stood loose. Both it and the grate came crashing down in front of Envy, who pulled back instinctively to avoid getting hit.
The homunculus blinked at the sight before it. Whatever had fallen through the grates was definitely a chimera, but not one of the kinds Father had created to help protect the entrance to their lair. He was much more human, with reptilian looking skin, nails, and a tail barely hidden under the poncho he was wearing. Envy blinked again, before a smirk started working its way onto their face. Its huge hand lashed out, grabbing the intruder by the tail and left leg and dragging him over to it.
“Well, well...” Envy sneered down at its catch, not loosing its grip. “What do we have here?”
