#gecko substrate

I came home from work earlier today and checked on Pandora because she was shedding (she's not now) but that's irrelevant, and in the corner of her tank I noticed something, and at first I thought it was a cobweb and I'm afraid of spiders so I waited for my boyfriend to get home and I showed him the stuff, and it turns out that it was actually mould from the substrate that we had her on (it was some kind of corn substrate I don't remember what it was called), so we emptied her tank completely, and washed everything, we don't have any spare substrate at the moment, so we've got her on some hay cause that's the only spare we have, we're getting her some new substrate tomorrow, but I'm just unsure as to what substrate I should get for her.

I absolutely love the grey slate tile in one of your gecko enclosures. It looks awesome and really emphasizes his markings. If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy the tile? And did you lay anything beneath them, between the tile and the glass bottom of the terrarium? Thanks!

I’ve replaced that tile now, with the tile in these photos, which I got from Home Depot. It’s 4x4 tumbled slate tile, sold in small 9 tile packs, from their slate and porcelain tile aisle, though they won’t carry the same stuff at every store, and I know that they tend to change their inventory regularly. 

I bought quite a few packs, because a.) I did two tanks (the gecko and a fish tank), b.) for the gecko tank I wanted to choose very flat-backed pieces for the area over the UTH, and c.) I wanted to choose matching colors out of the packs for the tanks (I picked out grey ones for the gecko and orange and red ones for the fish; the slate was multi-colored).

No, I don’t have anything underneath the tile!

On the far left side (cool side of the tank) I filled the extra space with some river rocks that match since I didn’t have matching tile, and it looks really good. I should take a picture!
