Hi! I really love the Deaf Elsa and Anna, I actually wear two cochlear implants myself and I really love it and it makes me really happy to see some of this on my blog :) Thanks for making my night!
I seriously just made the most excited noise ever! I'm so glad you like it! You seriously have no idea how happy this makes me. I'm just happy that you're happy. Here, have a warm hug, my dear.
SO, I'm sixteen and I'm still reading tons of these young adult books, but I know soon my parents will be pestering me about still reading them, but I have no idea where to start in any section that's not YA. Help?
Hey, First of all, there’s no shame in reading YA books. Hell, there are even adults out there who read YA books. I’m past your age and I’m still reading them happily. I mean sure, my mom sees me in the YA section of the book store and she’s like, “aren’t you a little old to be reading those books?”, as I’m sure you think your parents will soon be too. I usually just shrug it off. Like I’ve said, it’s stupid to gauge what books people should read based on age because it is just a stupid number that is pretty meaningless. Not all teens are immature and narrow-minded or whatever, and not all adults are wise and mature. You should read what you want, and what you enjoy, not what society - or even your parents (I know, bad influence here) feels is appropriate for you. Chances are, you’re not going to like whatever book you pick up because you are in a sense, forced to read it. But I digress. Let’s see how we can help you, alright? One thing I would do, if I were you, is to go down to your local bookstore and just browse through the Fiction section (rather than the YA section) because you’ll never know what you’ll stumble upon and what will catch your eye. If you find that scary, the large Fiction section is usually categorised by genres, so you can check out the ones by your favourite genre first and branch out from there. Another thing you can do is to list down some of your favourite YA books and authors, and do some research. For instance, some authors write both YA and adult fiction (e.g. Jodi Picoult co-wrote Between the Lines with her daughter). Some YA books are known to be similar in style/are inspired by classic books (e.g. Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower v. J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye) so it could be worth a shot to try out those books. If you don’t have already have a Goodreads account, it may also be a good idea to set one up, because they can help suggest books based on books you’ve read/liked. You also get to see what others think about them, share your own thoughts and make new friends. Sorry for the lengthy reply. I hope this helps you. Let me know how things go, okay?
