Gef the Talking Mongoose
Earthbound spirit
some off-stage photos of ravagers that live rent free in my head
A strange beast who rose to fame from 1933 to the late 1940s. Referred to himself as extra, extra clever, and made other, variously wild, claims, such as how he would split the atom or how the sight of him would cause his hapless victim to faint, petrify, mummify, and turn to stone or a pillar of salt. Also known for standard poltergeist antics of object movement and strange sounds.
Gef the mongoose💥
Cryptid of the Day: Gef
Description: In 1931, the Irving family claimed their farmhouse was inhabited by a talking mongoose; a ghost in the form of an animal. The tabloid press ate up the story. It is now believed that Irving’s daughter, Voirrey, used ventriloquism to pull off the hoax
Pictured is the house the Irvings lived in with Gef. The two people are apparently Jim Irving and Voirrey.
(ID: A side view of a simple house with no discernible features between the walls and the roof. There is a small partition jutting out from the front. A young woman and a man stand next to each other.)
