The others had insisted she was just weird when, at the prompt of Yukizome to prepare a class project for the Hope's Peak school festival, Sonia had blurted out the suggestion of a haunted house.
The situation was new territory for the private school. The headmaster, in a moment of greatness or insanity, declared that both the Ultimates and the Reserve students should particpate in the grand tradition of school festivals in an attempt to showcase the budding talents of its students. And her homeroom teacher, Yukizome, had been an enthusiastic supporter of the idea. But Class 77-B had stared uncomfortably at Sonia when, upon the end of Yukizome's explanation, she'd immediately gotten to her feet, hands balled into fists in excitement and insisted the class dress up as ghosts, witches, and serial killers to terrify anyone who stepped foot into their mansion of mayhem. She'd taken her seat after a full minute of silence, her teacher insisting they'd "take it under consideration."
After thirty minutes, they'd chosen a maid cafe instead.
"It wasn't that strange..." Sonia muttered to herself. Out of embarrassment, she'd sequestered herself in one of the common living spaces for the Ultimate students, ignoring the crisp autumn afternoon she would have normally enjoyed in favor of her laptop. If they weren't open-minded enough to build a haunted house, she could at least watch one come to life in the forms of Ju-On and Crimson Peak.
But as Sir Thomas Sharpe brought his new wife, Edith, to live at at Allerdale Hall, Sonia was distracted from the growing tension onscreen by two different sounds: the rumble of her stomach and approaching footsteps, the latter being most out of place. On a Friday afternoon with the freedom to leave campus until curfew, who would bother sticking around?
