Story
This is a favorite Holiday tradition at Christmas which my family has shared for years, and is my Great Grandmother’s recipe.
She and my great grandfather came over from Germany and settled in Wisconsin and brought this recipe with them.
Us ‘kids’ love it so much that as we’ve aged, we’ve begun asking for it as a Christmas present (just to ensure we all get enough of them to enjoy beyond the Holidays)!
My Mom never seems to make enough! I laugh because on the recipe my Mom says: I always double this recipe as these stay very fresh in a closed container for a good three weeks... uhmmm… they never last that long :)

Ingredients
Dough:
1/4 C sour cream
3/4 C soft butter
1/2 pkg yeast
Two egg yolks
1/2 tsp. Vanilla
Flour
Filling:
Two egg whites
1/2 C. granulated sugar
1C. chopped nuts (I prefer walnuts)
1/2 tsp. vanilla.
Method
3/4 C of soft butter and 1/2 pkg. Yeast diluted in a few tablespoons of warm water.
Crumble ingredients like a pie dough. Put two egg yolks in a 1/4 C sour cream. Add 1/2 tsp. vanilla. Beat these 3 items till well mixed and then add to flour mixture. Beat two egg whites stiff. Add 1/2 C. granulated sugar, 1C. chopped nuts (I prefer walnuts) 1/2
tsp. vanilla.
Divide dough into 3 sections. Roll dough on powder sugar till thin. Cut dough like a pizza slices. You can get about 8-10 slices in. Pick up a slice of dough and put a scoop of filling down the center of slice and roll up lg. end to small, like a crescent roll. Bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes. They should be lite brown on bottom when done.
While still warm drizzle generous amount of icing: 2C. of powder sugar, 1 tsp. Vanilla and add milk in an amount until it looks light enough to drizzle easily.
(I always double this recipe as these stay very fresh in a closed container for a good 3 weeks)
