“Get down!” Haya moved quickly, shoving someone else downwards and looking towards the direction the bolt was fired form. “What on earth! What are you doing!?”
The first thing Haya would see was smoke rising from the barrel of a gun, held by a steadily approaching figure. “Move.” Said figure exclaimed bluntly, with a gesture of her head indicating for the other to get out of the way. She stood out remarkably in this sunny day with her attire, what looked to be a thick white suit underneath a black jacket.
“My business is with...” She begun, before noticing the person Haya had shoved was already on their feet and scurrying away. She stops in place and proceeds to point her gun once more at the fleeing and frightened person.

For a long while, there is only darkness for the undead woman. How long has she been out? It could have been anything from an hour to a year, for all she knows. The only thing for certain is that it was very cramped, and she couldn’t see a thing. The last thing she remembered was being stuck in some giant can of sorts... which would likely explain her current state. No time like the present then, and she pushes out both her arms against the surface in front of her and pushes.
...And pushes. And then resorting to one strong shove with both fists, sending the lid flying and causing light to pour in. She immediately stands up and calls out before even fully registering her surroundings.
“Where...” Her voice is rougher and throatier than even usual, and she glances about with a dead serious expression.
⏮️ Barry
...2007...
“Okay, scariest ghost,” Barry said. “Go.”
“Geist,” Dawn said, and the mismagius burbled approvingly, swirling her cloak in a flourish above her trainer’s head. “Duh.”
Barry turned, scrunching his nose. “No she’s not.”
Dawn raised her eyebrows at him. “You’re gonna get haunted for that.”
“Augh!” Barry flailed his arms in the air, waving away the argument. “Okay, listen, you’re walking through the woods, alone, no pokémon, and bam! A ghost pops up and it’s not the one that’s been making goofy faces outside your bedroom window for actual years.”
Geist giggled, Dawn smiled, and Barry huffed dramatically.
“Yeah yeah, you’re the terror of Twinleaf.” He pointed a finger gun at Dawn. “Go. Scariest ghost, what is it? Because I would say trevenant.”
“Is a location central to this hypothetical?” Dawn asked, deadpan.
“Well, no,” Barry said.
“So, in the middle of Jubilife, a scrawny decorative gingko trevenant with a bunch of fairy lights in its branches is the scariest ghost you could possibly see?”
“No but like currently.” He pressed his palms together and pursed his lips. “Current situation, scariest ghost is a trevenant. Trevenants. A whole forest of ’em.”
It was still early morning, and the sun shone bright in the pale blue sky, but very little of its light reached the ground through the crisscrossed boughs of the towering evergreens surrounding them. The shadows were cold, even through a coat, and the air was still, like a held breath. Pine needles crunched underfoot, and distantly, the tide broke itself against the coast in a steady booming bassline.
“Bad idea,” Dawn said.
“Yeah, no kidding.” Barry rubbed his forearms, evidently feeling the same sudden chill that she did. “Yikes, okay, way to spook myself. Or like. Both of us.” He frowned and pointed a finger at Geist, and she beamed back, showing fangs. “Do not get any funny ideas, lady,” he said firmly.
She hummed, the very picture of innocence, and twirled.
