One of the First GE Electric Locomotives

General Electric’s first double truck electric locomotive (and its second locomotive) was built in 1894 for the Cayadutta Railway and spent most of its working life at a cotton mill in Taftville, Connecticut. 

GE classified the locomotive as Type 404-E70-4 LWP 20-500 volts. Significantly, it used nose-suspended traction motors, the arrangement that became standard on nearly all diesel electric locomotives. (Duke-Middleton collection, photographer unknown)
