4/6 of the 2-gem uncs fusions done, this is Sea Glass, Squid and James’s fusion! Laid-back, spunky, and a both figurative and literal spark plug, James’s destabilizer staff got merged in with Squiddy’s hydrokinesis to give conductive water powers, two forces of nature that absolutely should not mix. He’s stable up until that point. Too much power used does paralyze James for a few minutes afterwards, so Sea tends to stay pretty lax on the lightning unless necessary and lean on water manipulation.

This is one of my favorite fusion designs so far, mostly because of the color and the wetsuit swimmer/surfer theme. Fun fact, he’s kinda see through if you shine a light through him, with most parts of him frosted like actual sea glass!

GemCYT got on the brain again as a result of rewatching Steven Universe and I figured Dan needed a wardrobe change because his old one was ROUGH.

Still Blue Diamond posing as a Larimar and being a mole for the rebellion, still cryokinetic, but I decided to finally draw Grim in the place of Lion for him. Big ghost ouppy…

Uncs fusion #5, here’s Abalone! Despite his components, he’s pretty quiet and stoic around most until he’s in a safe spot with Dan and/or James or any other rebels, only then is it apparent he’s a complete sweetheart. He’s harmless to anything but the corrupted and any loyalist gems trying to attack, just has the worst Resting Bitch Face known to man. He’s really similar to canon Opal in terms of calm temper and being nothing yet everything like the gems that make him.

I don’t know why I went for a navy theme, my mind thought of a blend between Justin’s crossbow and water and came up with a harpoon gun, then I said “eh why the hell not”. Yes I had “In the Navy” by the Village People in my head the entire time.

Another uncs fusion, this time a new one, Sodalite! Around 10-11 ft tall, playful and protective personality, you say “jump,” he says “how high?” He would come a lot later from other fusions in the group, and with his water and ice powers working simultaneously, I figured a dragon theme would be ideal. They’re not the most stable, but they make it work.

Decided to redo Think and Dan’s fusion, Apatite, because I also botched the old design for him, too. He’s got a refined exterior, only to be a brotherly, slightly sarcastic dork once you get to know him. I leaned into a male figure skater theme for him because it made sense for a Pearl’s ballet skills and a Larimar’s cryokinesis to merge into that sorta thing (Ik he has no skates but he doesn’t need them shhh)

Alright one more rehaul, this time of the squiddy boy himself, still a Lapis! He uses his water as tentacles (prehensile limbs) mostly and rarely flies unless he needs to, but despite being a rebel he keeps Yellow’s (Stampy’s) crest on his shirt because he misses his friend since their fallout at the start of the war.

Do you have any lore bits for Grim? I just realized that we barely know anything about him

Sure do!

How he came to be is similar to Lion in canon, except Dan found him already dead and a pile of normal wolf bones. Dan had been given a bottle of Lizzy/Rose’s healing tears/spit by the hermitcraft/life series rebels and was taking it back by foot to the Sub-Zero/Shady Oaks rebel’s temple because the warp pad was under repairs. Keep in mind, Dan wasn’t AS accustomed to the concept of organic death, decay, and preservation as a human would be, so he got distracted by the bones, ambushed by a corrupted Quartz, and accidentally dropped the tears, which seeped into the ground along with his own spit from the fight, reviving the dog into a sort of animate skeleton with the soul making up the rest of the body. Once he took care of the Quartz, a tiny bit of corruption essence mixed into the dirt, which made Grim into a big ass direwolf, and Dan didn’t realize what the hell he just made until it literally followed him back to the temple and scared the shit out of everybody else. Lizzy’s spit/tears reanimated him, but it was diluted, as opposed to Dan’s being direct, which is how Grim ended up not fully alive with flesh and just undead. And blue.

Like Lion, he also has that hammer space in his fur. It would look a lot different, though, probably a blue-ish wisteria tree and some hydrangeas. Dan doesn’t keep near as much stuff in there because he’s worried about losing it, instead letting Justin carry most of it in his Pearl. If anybody keeps stuff in Grims fur, it’s most of the team, though whatever they do keep in there, they secure in a box or something because Grim not being fully alive means stuff falls out a lot easier. If any of them gets poofed, they typically throw anybody but James in there until they get back home. James can’t stay in there because he’d sufffocate. Same no-oxygen rules apply with Grim’s space. The point of entry is just his underside and the thick fur around his head, so if anyone needs something, he just rolls over.

Grim came perfectly trained upon being revived, so the group assumes he retained at least some of the memories from before he died and that he belonged to somebody before, but that somebody’s long gone. He doesn’t remember who they were, at all.
