(Gemtho anon) Actually, would it have been better or worse if Gem started posting Minecraft around the same time as Etho (2010, she would have been 14, kinda like Tommyinnit)? On one hand, they've been around in Minecraft for pretty much the same time (assuming they didn't interact back then, either because they were on different circles and/or Gem was still a small Youtuber for years), on the other hand, Gem's viewers would remember her at 14 and watching her grow, and that would make gemtho extra wrong? Or is it less wrong overall?

That’s a very interesting question, one that I don’t know if it has a proper answer. I think it’d definitely put off a lot of current Gemtho shippers and bring more attention to the age gap, and if they’d known each other back then, it could affect their whole dynamic. I can’t really say if it’d be better or worse, but it’d definitely be different.

Dude I was going thru the gemtho tags and saw your post 4 days ago, could you please expand on what you mean they give right person wrong time gifs? And what change in circumstances would make them right person right time? Pretty please, what do you mean

I’m assuming you mean this post? If so, I was referring to the right person/wrong time vibes for Redcrackle, another ship, but I’ll still give this a go!! If you meant just in terms of how I can see them in love but not dating, that’s more along the lines of I see them comfortable in their mutual pining/unsaid affection.

In the context of Hermitcraft, I’d say it’s mostly due to their age gap (which even as characters is fairly assumed), and also them both not wanting to affect the general server-family dynamic that the Hermits have. Most Gemtho moments were in S9, and came from natural banter, and while there’s a lot in S10 as well, it seems that the Hermits are generally more conscious of how fandom can interpret their characters. From an in-character lense, this can be viewed as Gemtho having natural chemistry but not wanting to make things awkward, and so becoming more clipped with each other in an attempt to reduce the tension, which might be the reason why cGem teases Etho so much about Joel (as a way of her projecting). Etho’s also a lot older, both in seasons as a Hermit and in actual age, which can contribute to a distance between them. That’s just my take, though.
