"We won't teach this at school because parents are supposed to address it at home." Anything that puts all of the child's power onto the parents' hand, anything that assumes parents are going to inherently do enough of a good job no one else needs to interfer, every single one of these IS going to be used by controlling, neglectful or unprepared parents and already are, and if the system did not account for that very real, tangible, dangerous tendency, then it's not worth fucking anything. You shouldn't make things "for the youth"/with children in mind if you are going to overlook this painfully common aspect of their lives u_u

When those GPS trackers for cars were released, specifically advertised for parents to put in their child's car, I saw the ad on TV and said out loud, "God... I wonder how many abusive parents and spouses are gonna use that to keep their victims from escaping."

My dad was sat next to me and his eyes got big as saucers. He was so quiet when he replied solemnly, "I didn't even think about that... jesus christ, that's dark..." and I had to tell him I had friends who were probably gonna end up in that situation with their conservative parents. He was so removed from the notion of using that device for cruelty that he didn't even CONSIDER it! That's how easily people can be bought in by inventions/legislation advertised under the guise of "keeping the kids safe". My own father, who is a beautiful and gentle man with a good head on his shoulders, was ready to advocate for a tracking device, because it was sold as a device to "protect children".

Children need more protections from abusers, yes, but the biggest protection they could possibly have is AUTONOMY. GIVE CHILDREN AUTONOMY.

Why is there asexual flag discourse on tiktok and Instagram (probably twt too but I'm not touching that with a 10 meter pole)? Since when did the white stripe allegedly represent allies and allosexuals? I've always been told the white was for the spectrum. If the white stripe was the issue then why did they remove the iconic, recognisable and beloved purple stripe that represents community and keep a white stripe just changing the meaning? Wouldn't it be easier to just update the meaning of the white stripe we already had?

I mean, I feel kind of weird that we suddenly have a hot pink stripe representing love, no offense, but the grey stripe already represented demi and grey sexuality, so I don't see the need to add a stripe that conflates romantic and platonic "love" into one and allegedly also stands for aromantic? The pink stripes says: "centers all kinds of loves" but that kind of leaves out loveless and aplatonic aroaces...

They could have at least made the new purple stripe closer to the og purple

I love seeing different interpretations and new designs for the asexual flag, or just making ones for themselves!

However- I think ppl who are redesigning flag and sharing with the community to use, is missing some key points on asexual community; being asexual has nothing to do with love - yes some to probably most aces feel some type of love; familiar, platonic, romantic ect- but not all of us experience any love, and deserves to be rep in a flag. And a lot of these redesigns are leaving out aplatonic and loveless aces of these flags, and yes it's a big deal.

So I maintain that changing a character’s orientation in a fanfic doesn’t erase the canon representation and that we as aspec people have bigger issues than some stats on Ao3, BUT I do in fact think that there is a double standard in how often aspec characters get fanfic orientation changes versus alloallo queer characters. Just writing a fic where you change a character from one marginalized orientation to another isn’t inherently a sign of aphobia, but if you do this to every single aspec character and never do it to any alloallo characters then I do think you have some biases you need to unpack. Also I would like it if people would admit they are doing orientation changes and not just go “many aroaces are romance-favorable and this aroace character must be one of them” in reference to a canonically romance-repulsed character.
