Hello dear 💜 Been thinking about Katara a lot (naturally) so I was wondering what are your top 5 fave Katara moments?
I picked these giffed moments because, to me, they exemplify who Katara is outside of her relationships to other characters
1. Katara is snarky, capable of humility, and has a gray morality
-In The Waterbending Scroll, she proves that she can and is willing to learn a lesson, though she recognizes that she will continue to determine what is right and wrong on a case-by-case basis. Katara may not be traditionally funny, but she has a teasing nature. This is one of the first Katara centric episodes, and I think both the audience and Katara learn a lot from it.
2. Katara is strong-willed, dramatic, and ruthless
-You cannot tell me she wasn’t aiming to take off Pakku’s head here. In The Waterbending Master, Katara knows what she wants and goes for it, unwilling to let tradition stand in her way. Could this have been handled more diplomatically? Sure, but she wants to challenge Pakku to a fight she knows she’ll lose in front of the entire Northern Water Tribe council, so that’s what she does. And then she gives it everything she’s got, showing off moves where I have yet to find who she might have learned them from. I honestly think it was pure spite that taught her how to bend disks of doom.
3. Katara is determined, hopeful, and patient
-The Desert and Katara. Woo, I have a lot to say about it, but I’ll be brief. Here she is, looking at everyone around her, broken and defeated, and she decides No. She will get them out. Katara doesn’t allow her frustration to boil over even though she deserves that release. I wish she had gotten to yell in this episode because she spent so much time swallowing everyone else’s burdens, but she is determined and hopeful enough to know that’s not what the group needed. This episode is also another great example that Sokka may be intelligent, but Katara is wise.
4. Katara is compassionate, gentle, and maternal
-We see examples of this throughout the entire series (um hello she helped deliver a baby), but I think this moment in The Painted Lady highlights it all. With children, she’s especially gentle, leaning down to eye level and speaking so softly. Katara doesn’t see these people as her enemy even though they’re from different nations. They suffer from the war as well, and she knows this to her core. Not only will she not turn her back on people who need her, Katara will meet them with a kindness and softness not shown to them before.
5. Katara is brave, empathetic, and wise
-Katara does not run away—not from her problems and not from her own emotions. More than that, she will listen to those feelings and grow from them. Katara is such a powerful character, solidified by her choice to not take revenge in The Southern Raiders. Because it was her choice, no one else’s. She is brave enough to face this part of her, empathetic enough to listen to herself, and wise enough to accept the answer.
