I will not lie, Gen Ip has inspired alot of people to continue with Filmography lists. Her stuff is amazing and my attempt doesn't hold a candle against hers...

And that's a wrap. I've collected all the good videos below, there are myriad others I rejected on YouTube. Let me know if you loved them, hated them, or didn't understand what the hell I was hoping to accomplish tonight.

Excellent soundtrack, editing, and linking of dialogue. Loved the beginning/first act, but the end lacked "wow." 

Cinefile 2014 // Miguel Branco

Loved the second act, but act transitions were rough and abrupt. Dialogue here is more sparse, which on the one hand emphasizes the visual and soundtrack, but I prefer when quotes from different movies are cleverly combined in a conversational or banter-like manner. 

2014 AT THE MOVIES // BMoneyrulz

Fun and short, though the length underscores the trailer-esque nature of these mashups more than the longer ones do. Still, four acts in three minutes, impressive. Could use more interacting dialogue.

Includes television, and the video quality isn't great, but superb editing.

The Hunt for Gen Ip Filmography 2014

There are any number of things I could be doing right now, so of course I dropped everything and started watching Gen Ip’s old Filmography mash-ups. Sadly, she announced that 2013 would be her last such video, so there was no ”Filmography 2014.” But there were plenty of others vying to step in, and I’ll be spending much of tonight digging through them to find a successor worthy of assuming the “Filmography” mantle.

I’m a very subjective judge, meaning I’m not nearly enough of a film expert to justify or explain the cultural motivations behind my preferences. But Gen Ip’s videos were truly inspiring, encompassing the scope of human experience through the lens of that particular year in film. Here, I looked for compilations with a similar impact, that emotional oomph that makes you sit back and reflect as the music soars. Many share scenes, songs, and voiceovers, but it’s interesting to see the way they cut and play them. Each song represents an “act,” but not all of them organize into distinct thematic “acts” the way Gen Ip did. Anyway, enjoy and let the procrastination commence!
