@ gk fandom did we work out what the deal is with the Espresso Maker Incident? Like, iirc it doesn't occur in reporter's book or Nate's.... It takes up like 3 scenes in the show - Brad being informed, Brad making the kids feel bad about it, Godfather trolling Nate about it - and either it happens for exposition/character building reasons, showing that Nate will cover up stupid shit for the platoon, explaining what the RTO does, Brad's role in the platoon, how important coffee is I guess, etc.... OR it's a legit thing that happened that they found out from the guys, OR, and this is a personal fave, PJ had something similar happen and they had to explain why his face is burned. But the burning isn't that obvious, I don't think, plus makeup exists, so I dunno why they'd have to go to this much trouble. I don't knowwwww ok it just sometimes bothers me that I don't know the story behind this, or if there is one.....

agent13ofthessr saaaaaame. I’ve been thinking about this a lot. I haven’t changed my views on the war as a whole, but I can recognise now that I had a fairly simplistic view on a lot of stuff. I’m basically glad I didn’t watch GK when it first came out, because I think I wouldn’t have let myself take anything away from it, y'know?? (I was also with a POS ex who would have fuckin ruined it anyway. It really would have been a nightmare to watch with him.)

The military is a kinda different kettle of fish in the UK than the US, but as I come from a post-industrial Northern wasteland that’s prime target for the recruiters I have a lot of Views. I find it hard to understand people volunteering to go kill whoever they’re told to, and encouraged by aforementioned asshole ex I used to be quite forthright in condemning people’s choices - despite seeing the circumstances that make it more appealing or make it seem like the only option for some people?? So I was dogmatic about a lot of things, and felt I had to keep things black and white - I didn’t allow myself empathy with people who were there, and I do regret that. At the same time I have absolutely no truck with the idea that “supporting the troops” means shutting your mouth and supporting anything the politicians decide to do with them.
