It was late at night, with Angela's ears filled with the muffled music that played above her. Regardless of the Archdutchess O'Deorian's nightly festivities, she knew she had a job to do, and was intent on completing it without distractions. So, she continued focusing on her stitches, as she held the fabric on her lap and tuned into the melodic synthonies and the crackling of the fireplace that warmed her just enough.
Her hair was tied back into a hair nest, with a taped method keeping it together using a golden ribbon. Angela's hair was slightly frayed, with small pieces falling from it and emphasising truly how long she had already worked that night. And yet, she continued to as the orchestra began to play one of her favourite pieces - The Shoemaker's Wife, A Toy, P 58.
Angela continued working as the dampened music played on, with her hums in line with the melody. Something about this tune always made her mind race with fascination, and she couldn't stop herself from letting herself enjoy it to fulfilment. She was alone in this room right now, and her confidence had soared enough to indulge in this sweet, small pleasure.
Her hums slowly filled her mind and the room, with her shamelessly finding herself working at a faster and more focused pace. Angela's eyes were fixated on the piece, as her hair sculpted her face perfectly in the dim lighting of the fireplace. It crackled along with her, as the wooden slabs burned with what could be described as only delight. It was a breathtaking scene for her, as she found herself relaxing and easing more into her work. Once Angela was in the zone, it was almost impossible to bring her out of it or notice her surroundings - something the Archduke had scolded her for countless times, and yet never changed.
That's why, when the second hand for the Viscount stood in the doorway of the room, Angela never noticed. He had grown accustomed to her attention being needle point and slim - one task at a time was enough to enamour her with delight, he found out quickly through their friendship. But he just had to let her continue, and drink the view he was blessed with in this moment. The orange lighting hitting her pale skin, with her slender hands working attentively at the fabric in her lap; it was all so beautiful to him, and yet he would never tell her this. Simply, he thought it would be better to let her continue, and let himself photograph this moment in his mind for the future. So, he stood there with a smile on his face, until he determined enough time had passed.
‘Ahem’ he exclaimed, clearing his throat and grabbing the attention of the unexpecting woman infront of him. He was leaned against the doorframe now, with his arms crossed against his chest. Angela was left in a state of panic for a moment, her mind scattered as her body jumped at his sudden action. She should be used to this by now, and yet she wasn't. She never truly hated this, though, and found herself growing more fond of his antic with time.
Angela's eyes scattered across the room, before meeting his whilst she remained on her stool. All she could focus on was her beathing right now, as she calculated exactly what to say to the man infront of her, who had tormented her poor heart. A smile had started to stain her cheeks, as her free hand held her chest lightly.
“Pray, how many times must I bid thee cease this mischief, for thou dost startle me too much?” Angela stated, her humour sprinkled through each sentance. Her gaze was attentive on the man infront of her, who now was stood chuckling at her words with delight.
"Ah, but where would the fun be, sweet friend, if I did not give thee a little fright now and then?" He responded, his throat raspy and with a giggle interlaced with every other word. How he loved moments like this - simple in nature, and yet naturally easy to navigate with Angela. That's something he silently adored about her, and yet would never utter to her directly. For him, this was something to keep close to his heart. To quietly feel his heart grow more fond over.
Angela shook her head with a smile in response, before moving her attention back to her work. As much as she would love to indulge in this conversation, she knew she couldn't. He wasn't worth the wrath of her Archdutches.
"I would dearly love to engage in further conversation," she began, her smile remaining and her tone sarcastic to the man's ears, “but at this time, I must attend to other matters.” Angela sighed as she spoke, her tone disappating slightly the more her words fell from her lips. She felt herself sit there for a moment, her needle steady and yet motionless. It was as though her body was subconsciously waiting for a response from him, as though she couldn't continue in good faith without his reassurance. It was dreadful to her, but her heart wouldn't have it either way.
"Yet, if thou wishest, thou mayst take a seat and wait—my work shall not detain me for much longer, I hope." Angela found herself saying, her eyes drifting towards the second hand's shoes. Silence surrounded them as she began analysing his outfit more, waiting for his response.
His shoes were neat, polished, pristine. As always, she had noticed. As her eyes drifted upwards, she noticed his attire was… more formal than usual. Angela had seen him in every outfit by now - he often visited her when he could, with his Viscount and her Archdutchess having connections to one another. She had seen him in his farming, coach and travel, and butler attire. But never had she seen him so proper. It was jarring for her, as she sat on her stool in her ordinary clothes - a simple dress that covered her almost completely, with an apron that had now become stained with dyes from fabrics, with her basket of tools sat beside her. It was as though they were opposites right now, and she felt herself shrink into her appearance at that realisation.
As she watched him, he began to move from his position and bring himself closer, as he breathed softly in tune with the fireplace that continued to crack.
"Ha! Those words I've heard before, good friend. But while thou workest, pray look upon what I've brought..." He responded, with Angela's eyes shooting him daggers as he moved. She was used to his biting tongue, and always made sure to match it perfectly in these moments.
"Peace, peace! Show me this treasure before thy tongue runs further, Shimada."
As her mind stirred for a response, she watched him begin to move quicker to his ‘claimed’ seat - a stool that rests beside the fireplace, in safe keepings for him to use when he visits. Angela had managed to convince one of the butlers to let her use it, as a spare, ‘just incase’. Though, she refuses to admit this to the man that now found himself sat infront of her, rummaging through his pockets.
Angela would've used this time wisely; to continue her work without his interuptions. But, her curiosity was eating at her mind. It was as though it had infected her, and she couldn't bring herself away from the man sat infront of her right now. How easily she could be brought to this point was worthy of being studied, she thought, as she watched him continue looking for this something with her hands idle.
It was as though a bulb had lit in his mind, as his hands stopped frantically searching and finally found the piece of paper he desperately wanted for this moment. A smile grew on his face, as he positioned himself forward and brought out what appeared to be a piece of paper that had been folded over, and over again. Angela's eyes were fixated on it, as Shimada unwrapped it in his hands, smile remaining and his eyes glinting with something.
"'Tis Master Shimada now, mark thee!" he began, as his hands had finally unfolded the paper fully. Angela noticed it was a letter, and her eyes remained attentive to him as he breathed in deeply, preparing to read it. Confusion had began to unwind in her at his words, but by the look on the second hand's face, her questions would soon be answered now.
“To my most trusted servant and steadfast companion, Genji Shimada,” he began, briefly looking up to Angela to make sure she was paying attention, before carrying on.
“It is with great pleasure and deepest consideration that I, Viscount Jack Morrison of Watchsworth, do hereby elevate thee to the position of Master Steward of mine household and estates.” he continued, his excitement shining through his words as he spoke. Angela gasped, her hands moving to her mouth and holding herself in that moment. They concealed a bright smile underneath, with her eyes wide and pressing to learn more from Genji. It took all her strength not to interrupt him, and to let him continue reading this bountiful letter.
“Thy years of unwavering loyalty, keen wit, and distinguished service have proven thee worthy beyond measure. Not only hast thou shown exceptional skill in matters of estate management and accounts, but thy swift thinking saved our household from ruin during last autumn's grain shortage. Thy diplomatic handling of the merchant guilds' disputes hath brought honor to our name, and thy discretion in all matters, both great and small, hath earned thee this title ten times over.”
“My heart soars to see thy worth so rightly acknowledged at last-”
"Oh, come now! Just a moment of hush, if you please! I promise the best part is still to come!" he hushed, as he let the moment stir a moment. His heart raced at her quick appreciation and admiration for him, but he had to continue. There was more to share, and he was sure she would be shocked to hear everything else in this letter.
"Therefore, from this day forth, thou shalt be known as Master Shimada, with all rights and privileges thereof. Thy new chambers shall be prepared in the east wing, and thy yearly stipend shall be increased accordingly.I trust thou shalt continue to serve with the same excellence that hath marked thy tenure thus far.
Given under mine own hand and seal, This twenty-fifth day of April, in the Year of Our Lord 1678.Jack Morrison Viscount of Watchsworth
Post scriptum: Genji, my friend, I expect thou art reading this with that subtle smile of thine. Come see me in my study when thou art done showing off to whoever thou art reading this to – we have much to discuss over that bottle of French wine thou art so fond of."
He carefully read the rest, and finally lowered the letter and looked back up to Angela. Her hands were laid across her chest now, with her smile beaming across from him. How her happiness was emphasised by the glow from the fireplace had Genji in a trance, as he observed her reaction completely.
Before he could respond though, she began to place her work to the side, and moved her hands ontop of his. Angela rested them there for a moment, bringing Genji closer to her physically in that moment. Her heart raced at the contact, with her mind clouding and her judgement telling her to do more, show how pleased she is further. And yet, she could only bring herself this far, with Genji's cheeks deepening into a shade of crimson at her actions. Finally, the outfit made sense, and his intrusion at this late hour when the Archdutchess' party carried on upstairs was justified.
Genji's heart thumped with delight, as his mind wandered through the possibilities of what she could say. When he received this letter, all he wanted to do was show her, see her reaction, and engulf himself in the warmth of her praise. Throughout all of his endevours with the Viscount, he had always brought himself back to her comforting, accepting and helpful presence. It finally paid off, and he wanted nothing more but to stay in this moment with her and let himself imagine what could be…
"Thou hast earned this triumph, and I am filled with joy at thy success!" she began, as she watched the blush continue to grow on Genji's cheeks.
"Truly, thou art most deserving of this honor. My heart doth rejoice to share in this blessed moment with thee—thank thee for letting me partake in thy happiness." she smiled as she spoke, the hands holding his squeezing them gently with her words. It was grounding for Genji, and brought him back from his imagination and straight to her. The emotions were overwhelming in this moment, as he felt his eyes water slightly, and his heart pound ferociously in his chest.
He smiled warmly back to her, moving his hands to hold hers in return and squeezing them just as much. Even though they were calloused, Angela found herself desperate to keep his hands there, to refuse to let them leave for a reason unbeknownst to her. And Genji found himself thankful he had chosen her as the first person to share the good news with, as they lingered in this moment of joy with their feelings growing slowly, steadily and silently for one another.
A/N: This chapter has been the most chaotic thing I’ve ever written development-wise. The first draft of the chapter I hated sooo much I went back to the drawing board and decided to do this. Then once I completed this one, I still hated it but it was better than the last one I’ve got to admit. Then I went over the chapter to delete stuff, add stuff, redo stuff and now nearly every word is completely different, apart from the first part of the story. This wasn’t much of a joy at first, but at the end I felt pleased with myself and gave a pat on the back for it. Hope you all enjoy!
"A month! A month he's been in the strike team and he went from zero to hero in under that time!"
Genji gave out a fake chuckle as Reinhardt patted his back a little hard – but he was expecting that anyways – he didn't complain though as other members of Overwatch listened and laughed as Reinhardt carried on about how Genji saved and protected the French President a week after he was put on the team, and then go back to talking about the mission that the strike team had deal with some Junkers who had decided to try and terrorise Sydney in Australia.
At first, people did not like Genji, being that he was a Shimada and there were many rumours about the Shimada bloodline possessing a deadly weapon able to kill someone instantly. And there was also the Shimada Clan which everyone feared of so Genji was expecting immediate backlash on having him on the team which was widely known to be heroic and to protect the citizens no matter what, a boy with Shimada blood was obviously not what people were expecting. But then Genji’s first two missions came and became remarkably successful to making people trust him with live footage of him on both. Unfortunately, Genji had now become quite popular through the media, even though he was appreciated not having himself be shone in the light as the worse thing Overwatch had ever decided on. He still didn’t like the fact that people had swarm onto him like bees when he was only out to at least buy new pairs of shoes.
At least he has a bigger chance of getting some entertainment at night with a few girls, he thought to himself which made him smile broadly.
"I mean when those Junkers went towards Genji, they thought he would be an easy target, and me and the rest of the strike team just stood there with me shielding Ana and Torbjörn, but no! Genji deflected all things that were thrown at him and back at them and completely knocked the rest out who were attacking us! Not even a scratch to his suit! He's incredible!"
"Excuse me Reinhardt," said Genji, trying to sound polite as possible, "I'm off to do some training, call me on my comm if something comes up."
"Ahhh! I will my friend!" Reinhardt exclaimed, "I might join you later if you save some training bots for me to smash!"
"Let's hope not," muttered Genji, "we would destroy the training grounds."
Reinhardt bellowed with laughter and patted Genji hard on his back once more. Genji swallowed the pain like it was a drink and managed to create a stiffen smile back at the tall, muscular man. He put the remainder of his lunch into a bin, left the mess hall and headed to the training grounds. He didn’t need to get changed, he was already planning on training anyways and opened his usual orange locker that was at the training grounds and eagerly got his usual training equipment out, they weren’t the ones he wore out on missions just so he doesn’t harm anyone if he did one-on-one combat, but they good enough to destroy any training bot, he inspected every piece of his equipment and then strapped them on to him, he then headed to the actual training grounds where training bots were held, platforms could be raised and flattened for anyone who wanted it to be an open ground, he looked up to see the outside world which had been cut off from with thick walls made of cement, Genji always thought that the tall, snowy mountains looked like paintings plastered to the sky and the buildings from nearby Zurich barely could be seen with how tall the wall was. Genji sighed deeply, then went back to why he was here in the first place.
"Athena," called Genji, as he did his stretching.
"Hello Genji," came the robotic reply, "do you want to do your usual training protocol?"
"Actually," said Genji, in his confident way, "I want to change it up a bit."
"In what way may I ask?"
"Increase the stinging lasers for the training bots up from level 6 to level 9."
"The 9th stinging level is quite power and painful," replied Athena, sounding quite cautious, "the result of you getting hit in the limbs means numbness, no movement for a limb for at least an hour and the sting could cause you to go unconscious, not to mention if it hits your chest or head it could be possible death or cybernetic replacement to them."
"Then just be grateful I'm not making it go up to level 12 then," Genji retorted, "now do it, I want to challenge myself a little, the rest can be the same as usual."
"Confirmative Genji," Athena said, the Japanese ninja began to warm himself as he waited for the countdown.
"Training begins in, 3,2,1."
There was silence afterwards. But a second later, Genji draw out his wakizashi and deflected the lasers coming out of a pair of two training bots’ arms which had suddenly appeared from the metals doors that confined them and made the lasers go into their heads. He began to dodge another pair of them, who were shooting rapidly, trying their best to lock on to the ninja. But Genji was quick, dodging all of them quickly and deflected them with his wakizashi, heading straight back and into the training bots' faces or into their arms, making them shriek out there usual, annoying ‘OWW’ or ‘ARGH’ or ‘HEY’. Even when he was in the air, he made a single blow fatal to the bots with using his shurikens either all three of them coming out of his training arm to strike in one direction or they go in three directions, most of them hit the bots, some just got stuck in the wall or laid on the ground, making dents to the rubber ground. He then got his main, curved sword out from his back, and began slashing the metal bots up like they were a piece of paper. At last, once Genji place his sword back into his scabbard, the last bot fell to the ground in pieces, joining the remnants of the others.
"Training exercise protocol for Agent Genji Shimada wave 1 of 20 enemies, completed," announced Athena, "wave 2, beginning shortly."
Genji sighed and began to catch his breath. He checked his shurikens and made sure that his blades weren't blunt whilst cleaning bots came to take the dismantled training bots so they could be repaired for who else was going to train with them. He then went over to a bench where he got a towel which he wiped on his sweating head, he drank water and rested before Athena was ready.
"Wave 2, will commence in 20 seconds," Athena said, "I'd advised you get ready Genji."
Genji nodded and got up. He went to the middle of the arena and withdrew his wakizashi. He walked to the centre of the arena and start to decide on which position he should use before the next part of his training began.
"Wave 2 commences in 10 seconds."
Genji leaned into his position, his hand gripping the wakizashi and his eyes darted around the doors in which the bots would come out of and attack him. Then the door to enter the training arena opened, and then the familiar dwarf came out of with his usual cap on him, but Torbjörn wasn't alone, he seemed more happier than usual and was talking to this woman. Genji looked at her and immediately froze, as the woman looked around the arena, she had blonde locks which were in a loose ponytail, her eyebrows were thin like pencils, and she was wearing the doctor's uniform for Overwatch members. Her curious eyes finally came upon Genji’s and they were both immediately locked onto each other, he swore he could make out the ocean and sky at the same time.
"Wave 2 commence."
"Wait, what-"
A strike to the ninja and he fell to the floor with a thud, whilst the training bots immediately withdraw from shooting – they were design that way – Genji felt his left leg go numb for the first few seconds and a wave of stinging came soaring through afterwards, and did it hurt. Genji groaned in pain, it felt like teeth were sinking into his shin and calf and ripping away from the rest of his body. The world around him became a little unrealistic to him the world became blurry and he could only hear a muffled version of Torbjörn's voice, angrily shout things as usual. He was then turned around from laying on his stomach, to his back, and then he saw a shadowy figure above him, blocking most of the sun and making the remainders of it wrap around the head of a woman like it was a halo. The blonde hair which draped to one side of her shoulder sparkled in the sunlight making the ninja know it was the very same woman he was distracted by. His sight refocused and his hearing became much clearer, as he blinked a couple of times to make sure his eyes focused, but to also make sure the pretty blonde woman was still real, and it wasn’t him hallucinating.
"Hello? Can you hear me?" came a clearer reply compared to Torbjörn, which he was now clearly muttering something under his breath as usual. Genji responded with a nod and got up from his back with both arms holding his upper body up. The woman went to his leg to see where the burnt part of the joggers was. He then gasped in pain and both of his arms moved to clench his leg as another wave of stinging shot through his leg, just as much pain as the last one. The woman placed her hand on his back and rubbed it gently, trying to help sooth him down.
"Athena!" called Torbjörn, "out of 1 to 12, how much power did Genji put to the training bot's weaponry?"
"He asked for level 9 for laser power," replied Athena, "I personally insisted not to encase these circumstances came to a reality, but Genji was quite stubborn."
"Of course, he is," grumbled Torbjörn, "he’s ruddy Genji."
"Thanks for comforting me after getting hurt," Genji groaned back at the drawf.
"Yer were the one who wanted to be stung so badly!" snapped back Torbjörn. The woman then cut in.
"Torbjörn, I think he needs to be checked," she said, with a strong accent that Genji thought sounded very much like the civilians in Switzerland, "I’ll take him to my office."
The dwarf looked at the blonde woman and grumbled a response whilst nodding. The woman looked to Genji with a warm smile. "Do you think you can stand on one leg?" she asked sweetly.
Genji blinked for a split second, still not believing that her soft voice was real, then he finally nodded once more. The woman gave him another warm smile which made Genji’s heart beat faster and lifted him up, then she placed his arm over her shoulders so he can balance himself between his one leg and the woman. The ninja looked over to where Torbjörn use to be and look towards the exit as to where the little blonde dwarf was now heading towards without a care in the world about Genji. "Going to help me?" he asked, clenching his jaw once more to swallow a third wave. Torbjörn turned and looked at both Genji and the woman who was helping him balance, with a raised eyebrow.
"I think she's got you covered," he muttered and carried on moving out of the arena, "I'll see you later!”
The woman sighed and shook her head whilst having a small smile on her face. "Typical Torbjörn," she said quietly, she looked over at Genji who had clenched teeth, "best get you to my office then."
They headed there with Genji hopping on one foot whilst his left leg remained numb and having waves of stinging coming to him every minute or so, whilst the strange – but attractive – woman helped him to where they were going. Other agents, doctors and scientists stared at them as they walked by and Genji just felt embarrassed with hopping along with one foot whilst the seemingly new member of Overwatch encouraged him on. They eventually reached the medical department and the woman helped Genji towards a door which made his head tilt.
"That's the head of medical research's office," he said. The woman chuckled.
"I thought you were told that the previous one was retiring, and you were getting me as the new head," she responded.
"I don't listen to briefings," said Genji.
"Obviously, you don't listen to Athena," came the response which made Genji's eyes widen a little and look to the Swiss woman whilst she opened the door who didn’t have a smile on her face and eyes were now a little wary. Even though he felt anxiety built up from his heart and clash with the pain of his leg, Genji said nothing as he was helped through the narrow door. He had only been in the head office once in his life and that was a few years ago, it was the right size for a medical ward too, not too big or too small. Its walls were the usual white that covered most of the base. A desk and a chair sat at the end of the room with the usual equipment of pens and pencils, but with slips of scattered paper on the desk and whilst a mug of coffee sat near the edge. Genji didn’t have enough time to continue his scanning, as he was tugged by the woman to a medical bed which was at the third corner of the rooms.
"Sit," she ordered, Genji obliged with no complaints, besides, his right leg was feeling the ache of hopping all the way to the medical ward. The woman grabbed some plastic gloves which sat on a table. "Where did the laser hit you?"
Genji pointed to place where shin met calf and the woman rolled up his training joggers up to examine his leg. "I never got your name," he stated.
"Doctor Angela Ziegler," came the reply, "and you are this famous Genji Shimada, am I correct?"
Genji chuckled whilst rubbing his neck with his hand. "I'm that popular, aren't I?" he joked.
"With the stuns you pulled in front of the public and with your announcement," responded the doctor, Genji swore was trying to hide a smile as she went on, "you made headlines where I was, it's quite impressive with how agile you are."
"I was trained by the best," smiled Genji, "I'm guessing you're the new head of department for medical research?"
"That is correct," she said.
"I see... how did a young, pretty woman like yourself managed to come here?"
Immediately, the doctor froze, she stayed like that with her body tensed until she just shook herself back to reality. "Your leg will be fine after an hour," she finally states, ignoring Genji's flirtatious quote and getting up where the ninja could examine her face, her eyes showed more wariness now which Genji absolutely hated, he was just making it worse and worse for himself now and he just looked the other way whilst Doctor Ziegler stepped over to one of the closets. "I will give you some painkillers, so you won't experience the stinging at it's worse. I suggest you remain here for a while though."
Genji nodded, still a little flabbergasted by the doctor's response to his flirtation. He was given a pill which the doctor offered him water so he could swallow it whole and he was shoved fully on the bed with a pillow underneath his leg. Whilst Doctor Ziegler walked over to her desk and began to move around her paperwork. The ninja watched curiously as she rounded up her scattered papers. "What are they all about?" he asked intently.
"Just somethings I need to sign and examine," she replied, not looking over to Genji, "some for my arrival and some for the purpose of work."
"I see," Genji smiled, "sounds a little boring doing paperwork."
Doctor Ziegler immediately looked at Genji then, who was grinning innocently, she gave him a look that made Genji felt like a brick wall was put firmly between the two now. His smile falter and he looked to the wall next to the medical bed, pretending like he said nothing. He heard Doctor Ziegler mumble something under her breath and he heard paper being moved and crinkled. They both didn't say anything after that, the once comfortable silence had now become awkward for Genji, and all because he didn't keep his mouth shut. Doctor Ziegler hadn't checked up on him yet, not even a glance from where she was sitting. He just laid there, bored. He looked to where she was for what felt like the 50th time and watched her write on the paper, which was organised but felt like it was going to fall into scattering mess.
"How old are you Doctor Ziegler?"
The Swiss doctor finally glanced up at Genji, her hand stop moving her pen from writing and she pursed her lips a little. "I am 23."
"23," repeated Genji, "that's quite young for a doctor that is head of this medical department, you must be very clever."
"I hope I am," she replied plainly, as she returned to the paperwork, Genji was feeling a little perplex on how something as a piece of paper with words on it was more interesting that a guy who had made media headlines a few times in only a month.
"I am finding it peculiar that you find that paperwork interesting," he said arrogantly.
"People find different things enjoyable," replied Doctor Ziegler, she then looked back at Genji, "what do you find enjoyable then?"
Genji smirked, thinking of how he had gotten a hold of her now but not realising how cold her eyes were looking at him. "I do like playing games and training keeps me fit," he replied, he then paused impressively, his smirk growing and making the doctor lean back a little. "There's also one other thing I do enjoy."
"And what is that?"
"Why don't you visit my headquarters and find out."
There was a pause, both knowing exactly what Genji had just said and then the brick wall that Genji felt between him and the doctor now felt like it had doubled its strength with the doctor's eyes seemingly taking the shape of missiles so to complete the fortress. The next minute, Genji was given a crutch from another corner and was shoved out of the office by the doctor.
"Who's your personal doctor?" she demanded, as Genji turned around in absolute disbelief, now realising the cold stare he was getting now.
"Oh-well-I-umm.... Doctor Muller," stammered Genji.
The Swiss doctor noted this in her head and looked back at a stunned Japanese ninja with her blue eyes, they locked on again like they did when they first saw each other, the Swiss doctor then looked down to the ground, whilst Genji stood there, more confused and perplexed. "I'll give him the report on your incident at the training arena today Agent Shimada," she said formally, "use the crutch for until after an hour where your leg feels fine and then return the crutch by tomorrow."
"Wait, what-"
"Good day Agent Shimada."
She gave a smile that made Genji’s heart feel like ice had been dunked over it and the door slammed right into his face and the ninja was left standing there with a crutch on his left side, staring at the newly place door sign, saying: Doctor Angela Ziegler. He let out a groan, feeling like his flirtation had failed miserably, but it had never failed before! He turned and then noticed an agent roughly in his thirties smirking at him, whilst sitting patiently in a chair for his medical treatment. Genji only scowled at him and began to walk away with his crutch helping him keep balance.
He almost getting to his headquarters, and every step he was taking with crutch and right foot made him feel humiliated with members of Overwatch looking at him with bemusing grins and curious glances and was feeling the relaxation being hidden away in his headquarters. "Torbjörn told me about ya little incident at the arena," said a manly voice with a thick accent, "didn't expect it to be this bad!" Genji stopped suddenly and then rolled his eyes whilst sneering to a wall as the man with dark clothing and a weird-looking cowboy hat came up to the strike team’s ninja with a wry grin that could’ve made his facial hair separate from each other from two metres.
"Hello to you to too Mccree," replied Genji quietly, "I thought you were at the base in Norway."
"Got moved here last night," said Mccree with a wry grin, "came in around the same time as the new doc. How did you find her anyways? Apparently, Torbjörn decided to leave you with her when you made the decision to lose a leg!"
"Haha funny Mccree and to answer your question, I don't know," the ninja muttered, "it was mostly a one-way conversation whilst I was in her office."
"Ahhh, I see what you did," smirked Mccree, “there’s only a few ways to not make the doc not talk and I know exactly which button you pressed.”
"I did too," said Genji, his sour mood from being shut out was getting worse with Mccree’s pestering.
"The doc is a stubborn sort and wants things to be as professional as possible within a workplace, a little too much if yer ask me. But she even cares for the people she dislikes and even though you might’ve treated her an object or a trophy like you do to every girl yer see, which she highly dislikes, she will still care for you if yer injured.”
Genji then felt a pang of realisation and tried to remember some of what he had said to the doctor, and with every word he thought of made his heart go lower down in his stomach. "How do you know all of this?" he quickly asked.
"Well, I've known her since I first joined," smirked Mccree, "Torbjörn showed her around the base at Norway and that’s where we met. We’re both good friends though, so it'll just be you who'll be gettin' the door shuttin' on yer face."
"Yeah... totally," Genji said, he had finally reached his headquarters which was where the usual strike team members were held at, with Reinhardt next to his since he was the one who usually stayed there, whilst Morrison had his own personal place to sleep in and Torbjörn and Ana usually go to their home country to spend time with their families most often. Genji was quite glad that he had made it but Mccree was insistent on talking to the ninja whilst he typed his passcode to unlocking his door.
"I'm guessin' yer made one of your stupid lines come out of yer mouth again," he mused. Genji felt insulted, but Mccree didn't seem to notice the expression on his face or just didn't care as he went on. "Honestly, I don't know how you managed to get to some girls apartment when you go to those parties in Zurich.”
“I’ve said much worse.”
“Like what exactly?”
The door had just unlocked, and the Japanese ninja had placed his hand on the handle, but he didn’t open the door and stayed still for a bit. Then he sighed deeply and let his free hand go through his black locks. “I only said that her work must be boring and that I don’t listen in important meetings.”
Mccree looked at Genji and smiled sympathetically and patted his friend’s shoulder. “It would be a miracle for you to ever catch her now,” he said, “you’ve literally insulted her to a degree of no return!”
“How much did you think I hurt her?” asked Genji, with his heart beating harder and his face trying hard not to cringe for he new Mccree’s response wouldn’t be good whatsoever.
“You know the insult when we were teenagers and we say to Reinhardt that his hammer looks like it could be salvaged to be a steam piston and then he would literally chase us down whilst gripping it?”
“Yeah, that really got to him hard-kuso,” said Genji, as his soul felt like dying, “it’s that bad?”
Mccree nodded solemnly and Genji groaned and banged his head on his door. The cowboy patted his shoulder again with his gloved hand.
"The doc is a kind-hearted soul Genji," said Mccree, “but what you’ve said to her in the medical ward well… if you think you were gonna have anythin’ between you two that’s gone down the drain then… actually, naah it’s way deeper.”
Genji didn't look back at the Blackwatch agent with the funny cowboy hat, he shrugged Mccree’s hand off his shoulder and opened his door and went through it with his body making him look like the saddest thing on the planet. Mccree shook his head as Genji closed the door on him and he was left all alone in the hallway. The cowboy had known the Japanese ninja to be quite rebellious and flirtatious to women and was still extremely arrogant about the whole ideal of him being in the strike team. Mccree knew Genji preferred to work alone and he could tell when he did tests and when he did his first ever mission when Morrison asked Gabriel to take him out on a Blackwatch mission. But it seemed he had gotten a small wake-up call from the whole ordeal with Doctor Ziegler, but as Mccree began to walk away to find Gabriel, he thought of how bad Doctor Ziegler was with her work and stubbornness. But both had heart with protecting and helping the people of the world he knew that. Whilst he got his cigar out of his pocket, he began to think of Genji and the doc as a thing, then brushed aside instantly.
“Never gonna happen,” Mccree confirmed to himself as he lit his cigar.

Summary: Sometimes, the hunter becomes the hunted. Sometimes, the handler becomes the one who needs help. And sometimes, love can blossom in the most unexpected of places.
A Monster Hunter World AU.
“You shouldn’t be so reckless all the time.”
Genji glanced sideward at the lady speaking from behind him before focusing back upon sharpening his blade. A slain Kestodon laid nearby, already starting to be surrounded by Revoltures looking to feast on the leftovers. He had already carved out some raw meat, not especially expensive or worthwhile but definitely a filling meal should he ever cook it.
“I’m fine, Handler. You think they’d send me out here all along if I wasn’t capable of handling myself.”
Angela looked over at him with a frown, her hand busy petting his companion. “Not you. I’m talking to your Palico. I can’t believe you’d drag the handsome fellow out to a dirty place like this.” She smiled back at the cat, who was grooming himself after the slight kerfuffle and meowing happily at being petted meanwhile.
Genji looked back at her as if to respond but ultimately decided to just roll his eyes with a sigh and finished up his sharpening, inspect his longsword afterward before tucking away the whetstone.
“Well, let’s get this over with then. Only a few more Kestodons to take care of before our assignment is complete.” Angela nodded as she stood up, brushing her knee to slightly clear off the dirt. They had been partnered up by the Commission, coming here together to the new world. Genji was not a very social type, with a background that she knew little about.
She had done some research and asked a bit into his past when she heard about her assignment. Apparently, he was supposed to be the heir of a corporation or something of the sort in the old world. Judging from his physique, mannerism, and appearance, he was probably well-suited for the task. Yet, he was here instead.
There were many reasons that a person might travel to the new world. To experience new adventures. To taste new foods. To gain riches and fame. To escape the monotony and history of the old world. Perhaps even to escape crime. After all, in the new world, everyone was treated the same before the eyes of the great monsters that roamed the land.
Angela took a long look at Genji’s back, his longsword sheathed there as he walked tall and kept his attention on the path in front of him. The Commission had kindly marked the areas where they would generally find the Kestodons, meaning they wouldn’t have to wander too far nor risk running into a big monster they weren’t prepared to fight.
Her gaze snapped from the clear blue sky to the raised hand in front of her as Genji motioned for them to stop. He knelt down, touching the evident footprint in their path with his fingers as he frowned. Kestodons didn’t leave footprints generally, not ones like these anyway. As his Handler, she knew exactly what they were looking at.
“It’s old … I hope it’s wandered far away by now. Let’s hurry a bit then, we don’t want to bump into that thing even on accident.”
Angela nodded, her lips set in the firm line as she adjusted her backpack slightly before continuing to follow behind him. She afforded a small smile as she watched his cat wandered off, happily gathering some herbs in its cute little sack before bouncing back toward its meowster.
A soft delighted gasp came from her lips as they finally arrived at their destination, her eyes wide as she gazed out at the beach before them. Genji looked back at her for a moment, a gaze that lingered unnoticed by the woman, before unsheathing his sword as he approached the Kestodon herd on the shore.
Her eyes moved down once more, watching as he approached the herd carefully. When he struck, it was with a quick stab followed by a wide slash that allowed him to repositioned himself. Angela found her eyes unable to leave him even as he slaughtered the herbivores, tracing his graceful movements and occasionally catching his unwavering gaze as he fought. She had seen him in action before they even came out here, though only in training. However, actually watching him at work was quite different.
There was an aura around him that spoke of confidence and skill. As much as she studied to assist him and other hunters in the new world, she felt … useless. He knew as much as she did. If he didn’t, he was more than willing to ask the field team leader or other hunters for their knowledge and experience. In short, she has just been tagging along and doing paperwork. She didn’t mind that particularly, it was just …
Genji sheathed his sword, glowing with the second level of power gained from all the energy and momentum he had gathered during his fight with the Kestodons. By his count, their work was done for the day. There was a cat by his leg looking up at him, with eyes that made him relent with a small smile that he purposefully hid from the woman up on the hill as he petted the small companion. Ever helpful as always, it tilted its head at him as it offered him a small Vigorwasp it had caught nearby. A shake of his head had the cat putting the creature away once more before turning around swiftly, a panic meow coming from its throat as it looked up the hill.
Angela was caught by surprise as she found her eyes meeting his after letting her mind wander with all the thoughts she had. She mustered a smile and moved to wave at the hunter finished with his task before realizing that the expression on his face meant something was very wrong.
In fact, was she always standing in front of a bush large enough to cast such a big shadow?
“Angela!”
By the time she had turned her head around, Angela couldn’t move as she was forced to cover her ears at the roar of the monster directly behind her. Genji was sprinting at her, conserving energy with his weapon sheathed. As soon as he came close enough, he drew the blade from its sheath into an attack, hoping to divert the monster’s attention.
They had seen the Great Jagras once before during their expedition to hunt Jagrases. However, they had been with an experienced field member and learned to hide in a bush. They knew not what it was capable of nor were they prepared for the actual size of the monster. Now, they had little options but to fight.
Angela quickly moved out of his way, looking around for a way to escape or something to help him. Genji only spared her a single glance before focusing on the monster, his lips set in a firm line. They knew that they would have to face the beast sooner or later. However, they were hoping to at least stock up on potions and maybe craft some gear from the Kestodon hide before heading out. Yet here they were, fighting the first large monster of their hunter career.
The Great Chungus Jagras.
An evasive roll brought him out of the way of the first attack, allowing him to quickly slash at the monster’s side. He quickly snuck in another slash as the monster lumbered to turn toward him. The longsword thrust toward the monster’s face, though it was too high and Genji opted for the beast’s enlarged belly instead.
The monster’s right claw pulled back before swiping at the swordsman. However, he was already prepared, stepping back in a wide space before rushing forward with a slash that brought him under the beast’s claw and connecting with its belly. Then, he followed up with a spinning slash that ended with him sheathing his blade, making Angela glare at him.
“Stop being edgy for two whole seconds and ju- Watch out!”
Genji immediately rolled away from the monster, alas still getting struck by the claw attack coming from behind him. He was flung a small distance, rolling on his side before propping himself to get up despite the blood on his back.
He gritted his teeth as he looked up at the looming shadow of the Great Jagras, which had reared up and ready to flatten him with his enormous stomach. If he got hit by that, he’d join the rest of the Kestodons in there. Perhaps this was karma for all those innocent herbivores he murdered.
A flask flew through the air, hitting the Great Jagras in the face. As it turned to look at the source of the green liquid projectile, Genji’s Palico swiftly ran to his side and offered him a Vigorwasp as he stood up.
Healed up once more, Genji let out a shout as he drew his blade, surging forward in a powerful thrust that launched him in the air. He saw the monster’s gaze toward the defenseless Handler in the near distance and knew that he had no chance to waste. Not after the one she already gave him.
The slash came down, carving cuts all along its trajectory. The Great Jagras let out another loud scream, forcing Genji and Angela to both cover their ears as they watched the monster run off. It didn’t look even remotely close to being near death but at the very least, they were safe now.
Genji stood there, blade in hand as he watched the monster run off. When he finally sheathed his sword, a loud sigh could be heard as he dropped himself onto the grass. Only to wince as the pain from his back flared up, not fully healed by the Vigorwasp.
Angela walked over slowly, eyes cast to the side in guilt. She stood there, fidgeting with her fingers as Genji stared at the sky. He finally looked at her, raising an eyebrow. “That’s a strange look on your face. I’m more used to your overly cheerful or annoyed expression. Frustrated even. Not that I’m saying I dislike this one.”
The glare came back on her expression, eliciting a smile from him as he turned his head to look up at the sky again. “If you feel guilty about what happened, don’t be. It’s not your fault that monster snuck up on you. I didn’t even notice it, despite being the hunter and the fact that it was enormous. Plus … You did save my life so. We’ll just call it even.”
Angela blinked at him, lips slightly agape as she tried to figure out a way to rebut his statements. However, she eventually sighed with a tender smile and nodded. “Fine then. Nothing changes. Though you did make me waste one of the health potions I worked so hard to make on the way here. You really should gather more materials while we walk, we’re not rich you know.”
Genji let out a small groan as he got up, walking down toward the beach to carve the few remains of the Kestodons that he had slain earlier. “Hai hai, Handler-chan. Wakarimashita. (Yes yes, Ms. Handler. Understood.).” When he was finished, Genji looked out at the beach before kneeling down, pulling out some gear from his backpack. Angela looked over from where she was standing, curious.
As he set up the BBQ pit, Genji glanced briefly over at the woman leaning curiously over his cooking site before pulling out some of the raw meat he had gotten earlier. “I figured it’d be nice to enjoy a meal in the nice scenery before we go back. Might as well use this meat I gathered while walking here, as you suggested.”
Angela looked at him for a moment before giggling, covering her lips with her hand before nodding. “Good~” With that, she took a seat and pulled out her notebook, looking around as she began to take some additional notes on the environment and the sea. Genji found himself gazing at her, hand moving so gracefully and at the soft texture of her hair which the sunlight glimmered off of.
“Kirei (Pretty).” He found himself saying before seeming to snap back from his thoughts and turned his head to the size, looking at the sea now as he idly turned the raw meat.
Angela’s writing froze, a red tint coming to her cheeks barely hidden by the glow of the setting sun in the distance. How was she supposed to tell him that she understood both times he had spoken in his native tongue now that he went and said that?
However, her dilemma was soon solved by an unfortunate scent. Angela let out a small yell as black smoke drifted in her direction. “Genji! The meat!”
With one burnt meat out of the way, Genji went off to get one more as he left the BBQ pit in her care to cook raw meat for herself. She watched as he grumpily walked away, smiling to herself as she looked back down at their picnic meal. She placed her right hand over her heart, wondering why it was still beating so loudly even after the Great Jagras was long gone.
Perhaps the New World wasn’t so unfriendly after all.

This one is a little bit shorter, I was really busy this week and sadly didn't have as much time to write. But don't worry, there is more to come next week! ❤️ Evelyn~ The post-mission checkups couldn’t have finished up sooner for Angela. She twirled around her office, her whole body filled with giddy energy while she hummed a sweet and sappy love song under her breath. She sat down at her desk with a sigh and could feel the heat growing in her face as she remembered her kiss with Genji. Angela had dreamed about what it would be like for him to love her, however she had always been so wrapped up in her work that she was never able to pursue anything other than her own imagination along with the occasional glance at her handsome colleague. They had been friends ever since she had rescued him and helped nurse him back to health, and though she did know a lot about him, Angela wished she actually knew him better as a person. Finally it seemed as if her little crush might be a reality, and she could feel her heart skipping with excitement and anticipation! Angela could still feel his soft lips and strong touch as he had scooped her into him, and she hoped that feeling would linger until the next time she saw him. Come to think of it, what would happen next time she saw him? She had been so nervous about seeing him today, but after all that had happened earlier it wouldn’t be so scary. Maybe he would hold her close again, close enough for her to feel his heart beating against her…. The lights in the room flickered, Angela losing her train of thought and looking up from her desk in surprise. She stood up and began walking towards her computer when everything went dark. “Athena, status report please.” she waited, but there was no reply. Angela began to feel her way to the edge of the room, her hands searching for the switch on the wall that would turn on the backup power generator. She felt the the switch and pushed it, the sound of the backup generator beginning to buzz in the background. The lights flickered again and the room lit up, “Ah, there we go!” Angela turned around, a pair of purple eyes smiling dangerously at her. “Ahh!” Angela jumped back in surprise, Sombra standing in front of her, one hand on her hip. The Talon agent smiled deviously and laughed at her, clearly pleased with her reaction. “Hey there.” She took a step closer to her, gun pointed directly at her head. Sombra opened her mouth to speak, but Angela dove towards her desk desperately reaching for her blaster. Sombra was too fast as she jumped back and knocked the blaster across the room, “Not so fast!” she laughed, and struck Angela across her face with the butt of her gun, kicking her as she fell to the ground. She laughed as Angela glared up at her before she backed up towards the computer. Purple light stretched out of Sombra's fingertips and towards the system, the computer opening up and files beginning to appear on the screen. “Don’t mind me,” she sneered at Angela before her other hand reached up towards her earpiece, “Initiating hack, I’ll be done in just another minute.” There was a voice on the other side, but Angela couldn’t tell who it was or what they were saying. She climbed onto her hands and knees, her head spinning and pulsing from the pain, reaching up and put her hand on the edge of her desk. Before she could pull herself more than a couple inches off the ground, Sombra sent her flailing back to the floor with another swift kick, this time hitting against her collar bone and knocking the air from her body. Angela moaned in pain as she rolled on to her side, when she caught a glimpse of her Caduceus staff leaning against her desk. Slowly she dragged herself across the floor, her fingers reaching out to touch the bottom of the staff. Grabbing the end, she pulled it towards herself, catching the staff in the middle as it tipped over and fell towards her. She swung the staff as hard as she could, hitting Sombra in the back of the knees and sending her face first into the computer desk. Sombra quickly jumped to her feet and spun to face Angela, pinning her down on the ground with her foot and aiming her gun. Angela aimed her staff carefully and threw it, sending it spiraling past Sombra before crashing violently into the computer system, bits of glass and electricity fraying the air with a sharp crackle, the screen flickering out. Sombra’s foot dug into her chest, and she turned back to look at Angela, a look of hate and anger in her eyes. “Arrrhhhh!” Sombra lunged at Angela's face, her nails cutting into her temple and across her forehead, then reaching back up and cocking her gun. Angela's sight filled in with black and a ringing ricocheted in her ears, the feeling of fire tearing through her side and abdomen, her head falling backwards and hitting the ground. Her body felt cool and her limbs refused to respond, and slowly she slipped out of consciousness. Genji sprinted down towards the broken door, “Angela!” he practically screamed her name as he jumped over the broken door and into the medical wing. He looked around the room, seeing the broken computer with Angela's Caduceus staff still sticking out of the middle. “That's probably what triggered the alarm and made the medical wing go into lock down.” Genji thought to himself, his eyes still darting around the room for any sign of the doctor. He walked deeper into the room, glancing behind the exam table, a deep red shining off the floor up at him. Angela lay on the floor unconscious, blood dripping down the gashes on her forehead, and an eerily steady stream pouring from her abdomen, pooling around her limp body. “Angela!” Genji ran to her side, looking down at her injuries, panic surging through him, “Hanzo! Hanzo go get Ana! Please, Angela needs help!” Hanzo, who had been watching his brother from the doorway and though not able to see Angela, grew pale and nodded before running off down the hall to get help. Genji took his shirt off and placed it on her abdomen, leaning into her open wounds in an attempt to stop the bleeding. “Angela, everything is okay I am here with you, I won't let anything else happen to you.” His voice was shaky and he trembled in fear and disbelief. Only an hour ago he had been here, holding her close to him for the very first time. Looking down at her pale face he felt his breath quicken and had to force himself to calm down. Several long and seemingly endless minutes passed while Genji waited for help, keeping a watchful eye on the door. Finally, Hanzo rushed through the door, Ana immediately running past him and over to Genji's side. “Thank you Genji, now please step back.” Ana said while slipping down beside Angela, moving Genji's shirt away, and lifting what remained of Angela's tattered shirt off of the wound. Carefully examining the ripped and burned flesh Ana took a vial from her belt and opened it up, pouring the contents over the wound, the golden liquid mixing with the red blood that pooled in the deepness of the bullet holes. Angela let out a pain filled moan and stirred briefly, Ana reaching up and tenderly stroking her blood dried hair. “I'm sorry about the pain Habībti, but we need to get you patched up.” she examined the wound once more, and stood up, “One of you, be helpful and pick her up and follow me.” Genji jumped forward, and slowly leaned down, picking Angela up gently and cradling her in his arms before following Ana towards the back of the room where the intensive and emergency care area was. Ana motioned to a bed and Genji laid her down carefully, Angela letting out another small painful cry. “Now, do either of you know what happened?” Ana asked, opening up containers, bandages, and whatever else she felt was needed. “Sombra.” Genji hissed between his teeth, “Sombra must have broken in here, I saw her in the hallway after the alarm went off. She was running.” Ana grunted in discontent, “You must head back to the others, Jack and Winston need a report immediately. Tell them I have her in a stable condition and not to worry. I would appreciate it if someone came to repair the computer system immediately.” Hanzo nodded, bowing slightly before turning to leave, stopping to wait for Genji. “I do not wish to leave her side, Captain Amari.” Ana looked up, slightly displeased. “Mr. Shimada, I did not ask you what you wish. I will take care of her here, or do you not trust my medical expertise and Dr. Ziegler's own biotic technology, though it saved your life?” “No, Captain Amari, I did not mean any disrespect, nor do I doubt your capabilities.” Genji bowed and turned to follow his brother out of the room. He didn't want to leave her, especially like this. All he could think about was her pale face twisted in pain, and the bloody mess he so desperately wished he could take away. But there was nothing he could do.

“Arriving to Lijiang Tower.”
Everyone who was aboard the Orca were silent as they were doing one last equipment check before they arrived at their destination. Angela holstering her pistol and grabbing her her staff, she looks around the ship watching her teammates prepare.
Lucio, who was in full gear, was working on the console helping D.Va do some last minute calibrations on her Mekka suit. Fareeha was by the door in her Raptora suit ready to get the go ahead to fly out. She was mouthing some kind of prayer as she looked out the window. Towards the front of the plane, Lena was piloting as usual and Mei was manning one of the side terminals.
Angela now looking to the back of the ship, she sees Genji sitting on top of his legs, his hands on his metal thighs. ‘A quick meditation session before going on a mission?’ Angela thought to herself.
“We’re sixty seconds from your drop off point, Genji.” Tracer shouts over her shoulder.
As Genji began to stand up, he grabs his blade that laid right next to him. He twirls the blade before slamming it down into the sheathe on his back. He turns around and starts heading for the door. Just as Genji was walking past Angela, he stops when she grabs him by the wrist.
“Please,” Angela says gripping Genji’s cold metallic wrist harder, still looking in front of her. “Be careful.”
“With these individuals by my side, I have nothing to worry about.” Genji says putting his free hand on her arm. He lets go and takes a couple of more steps before stopping again. “I’ve also have a certain angel watching over me.”
“Thirty seconds, opening hatch now.” Tracer shouts again as she presses a button that opens up the side door. Cold air blasts both Fareeha and Genji who were standing in front of it.
“If all goes to plan, I won’t even need to fire a single rocket.” Fareeha says loud enough for the ninja to hear her. “Watch yourself out there, Genji.”
“Same goes to you, Ms. Amari.” Genji nods.
“Get ready to jump,” Tracer now manually piloting the ship. “In five, four, three, two.”
The Orca flies by a small vacant landing pad and Genji leaps down to it, rolling as he lands.
“Genji, can you hear me?” Mei says over the communicator.
“Yes, Ms. Zhou.” Genji says looking around him.
“Right now you’re in the night market. The satellite images show a mass sum of men in the tea gardens another 30 floors. You’re going to have to find a way up there.”
As Genji starts to walk through the market, he takes notice that there’s no one present. The ramen stand that was in front of the landing pad had no customers or chefs.
“Where is everyone?” Genji says walking into the ramen stand. “Food is still cooking on the stove, and the bowls of ramen are still warm on the counter.”
“That’s strange. I’m not seeing anyone else in the market, or the entire floor for that matter. You think the triads could’ve made the people leave?”
Genji leaves the ramen stand and heads out further into the market. “I do not see any blood, so they must have forced people to leave. This meeting must be important for them to do something like this.”
“There’s an office building near you that can lead you up to the gardens. But be careful Genji, I’m picking up heat signatures and the last three floors. Could be patrolmen.”
“Yoshi, let’s do this.”
After silently taking out twenty Triad thugs with ease, Genji arrives to the entrance to the garden. He climbs onto a nearby rooftop to observe the area.
Triads in suits were posted all around the garden. The men were either carrying automatic weapons or handguns. What caught Genji’s eye was the heavily armed guards that were scattered among the Triads.
He heard a small thud come from behind him. Knowing who it was, he didn’t reach for his short blade. “You finally show yourself, brother.”
“Do not call me that.” Hanzo says walking towards Genji and crouching next to him. “What’s the situation.”
“Triad leaders are here to discuss something. My orders are to capture them, and turn them over to the authorities.”
“You can’t be serious.” Hanzo scoffs. “These people should die for the things they do.”
“You did worse, Hanzo.” Genji fires back at him.
“Genji, do you copy?”
“Yes, Ms. Zhou.” Genji responds.
“There’s three tea houses in the garden. I’m guessing the one the crime bosses are in would be the one with the heavily armed men standing in front of it.”
“Wait, those men. It can’t be.”
“Is something wrong Ms. Oxton?” Genji asks.
“Those men wearing the helmets, those aren’t Triads. I have to double check but this situation can change real quick if I’m right.”
“Rojā,” Genji nods. “Is everyone in position?”
“Roger, Pharah in position.”
“D.Va standing by.”
“Lucio ready to jam.”
“Mercy on call.”
“Ok, wait for my signal to att-”
“Genji wait!” Tracer interrupts the ninja. “Athena is picking up a conversation from the tea house by the edge of the tower. She and I are trying to get a better signal without being detected.”
“Patch it through.”
Static comes through the communicator at first, but then it slowly starts to clear up a little. “Thank you for com- see us in such short notice. We know your organi- very hard to contact.”
“Athena,” Tracer says over the communicator. “Can you clean it up just a little more?”
“Processing.”
“I assume you have looked over our terms of agreement.” The static voice says over the communicator.
“I did,” A woman with a french accent starts to speak.
“No!” Tracer says worryingly. “It can’t be!”
Back in the tea house that was overlooking the city, there were four people sitting around a table. Three old men in suits were all sitting on one side as a blue skinned woman sat on the other.
The woman with the cold blue skin was sitting in her chair taking a sip of her tea, staring at the old men as she drank. She was wearing a skin tight purple jumpsuit that exposed her chest. Her purple hair was up in a high ponytail as a visor sat on top of her head.
The woman pulls the cup away from her lips and places it down onto the table. “You went through a lot of tough obstacles to unite the three big bad syndicates of China, so you can have this little meeting. You ask for many things towards my employers. But I ask, what can you do for us?”
“Well,” One of the old men clears his throat. “With the three families coming together, we have an incredible source of income, we have territories all across Asia which we operate in, and we have control over some high officials in China’s gover-”
“Non!” The woman shouts getting up from her seat, slamming her hands onto the table. The cups that were on the table all shook. Triad men stationed outside started to head inside, reaching for pistols that were inside their suit jackets. They were stopped by the heavily armed guards.
“You can promise riches and lands to us, but can your so called ‘families’ give your full cooperation and loyalty to the organization?”
“What do you mean exactly?” Another one of the old men start to speak with confusion on his face. “We united three families that have been fighting for many years so we could have this meeting. Of course we’re going to give you our full cooperation.”
“So you’re willing to let's say, blow up government buildings?” The woman asks as she sat back down in her chair. “Assassinate influential people? Kill a mass some of innocents to make a mark? Your contact obviously didn’t tell you what our organization does. We don’t just supply weapons and tech to the highest bidder. Oh no, we have one goal, and that’s bring down chaos into this world so we can bring it up with our own agenda. And we will do whatever it takes to achieve this goal.”
“This lady can’t be serious!” Lucio says over the communicator. “History has proven that these kinda plans always crash in the end.”
“So what’s it going to be?” The woman says as she leans back in her chair, arms crossed. “Are you going to join us, or did you waste my time coming all the way here?” The men look at each other not saying a word. “I’ll tell you one thing before you make a decision. You decide not to join and go back to killing yourselves, I won’t guarantee that anyone of you will make it to the end. Talon will be victorious in the end, and we’ll crush anybody that stands in our way.”
“Genji, the mission has changed drastically!” Tracer shouts. “We need that woman alive! She was the one that killed Mondatta. Capture Widowmaker at all costs!”
“So,” Widowmaker says grabbing her cup of tea once again. “What’s it gonna be gentlemen?”
The old men look at each other and start whispering things to one another. After a couple seconds of discussing, one of the men stands up from his seat. His face shows he doesn’t want to give his answer. “We’ve come to the conclusion that.. you.. will get our full cooperation.”
“Incroyable! My employers will be pleased.” Widowmaker says standing up from her chair raising the cup of tea in the air, a grin on her face. “To a new partnership. À votre santé.”
Just as she was about to take a sip, an explosion happens at one of the landing pads near the tea houses. The rumble from it caused Widowmaker to spill tea onto the ground.
Both the Shimada brothers watch as the explosion happened. The Triad members from the other two tea houses as well as the ones spread across the garden start to rush towards it as they hear the cries from the men who were caught in it.
The Triads stop in their tracks as they see dark figures emerge from the flames. What stood before them, was four men in black traditional samurai armor. Glowing red eyes illuminate through their covered faces. Their presence was very menacing and would make anybody terrified to be in front of their way. Both the thugs and Talon soldiers raise their guns up to the intruders, ready to fire.
One of the samurai breaks off from the group and starts walking towards a Triad. The sound of his armor grew louder and louder with every step. The Triad had a pistol aimed at the figure, but was too terrified that he couldn’t pull the trigger.
Behind the Triad, a thug falls to the ground as a stray arrow punctured through his head. He turns as he heard sound of the body hit the ground. The group of men look around trying to find whoever shot the arrow. Archers on nearby rooftops show themselves and start to pick off people in the garden.
“Tāmen zài wūdǐng shàngle!” One of the men shouts.
The scared Triad looks back to see the samurai towering over him, staring at his glowing red eyes. The man in armor grabs hold of the handle of his katana and pulls it out of it’s sheathe. With an upward motion, the samurai slashes the Triads chest; killing him instantly.
“What’s going on outside?” One of the crime bosses says getting up from his chair as one of the Triads ran into the tea house they were in.
“We-need to get- you guys out of here.” The man in a suit says trying to catch his breath. “Samuari are attacking the garden.”
“What did you just say?”
“No time to explain. We’re going to escort you to the shutt-”
An arrow was shot through the opening of the doorway and stuck into the mans neck. The man fell to the ground and that’s when Widowmaker knew it was time to make her exit.
The three crime bosses look over to the opening behind and see a ship hovering above the railing. The ship’s door was open exposing two hooded samurai with bows drawn at the bosses. Behind them, two more men in armor step off the ship, their hands gripping their katana handles as they walk on either side of the table.
As the old men were staring at the two scary looking men, they felt a thud behind them that vibrated the room. Everyone turned to look at another samurai in the doorway. His armor was different from the rest. It was a dark red color that had gold trimming and was bulkier than the rest of the men. His hand was relaxed on top of his katana that was sheathed on his side.
“These are the men that lead their clans?” The man in the red armor says in a dark robotic tone.
“Yes, my lord.” One of his men nod.
The man in red walks to one of the old men and grabs him by the neck, picking him off from the ground. The crime boss moves frantically, trying to get out of his hold.
“What is it you want?!” The other crime lord shouts.
“Nothing.” The red samurai says as he watches his victim try to get out of his grasp. “Your operations are going to be a blockade for our master’s creation.”
With those last words, the samurai closes his grip and a loud snap was heard. The other two men are stricken with fear as their partner's lifeless body hits the floor next to them.
“Wait!” One of them shouts. “We can make a deal! Please don’t-” The old man’s plea is cut off as a blade goes through his chest. The same goes for the other.
“Leave no survivors.” The man in red says as he makes his way outside.
Back outside, both the shimada brothers watched as the Triad and Talon soldiers started to get overwhelmed by their enemies who wield swords and bows. Their bullets would get through their armor and kill them, but the number of samurai that kept coming at them was overpowering.
“Whoever planned this attack made sure they would not fail.” Hanzo says not taking his eyes off the battle in front of them.
“Genji! Widowmaker is escaping!”
Genji quickly looks back to the teahouse they were in to see the woman running the opposite direction of the battle with two of her guards behind her.
“Hanzo after that girl in the purple!” Genji commands to his brother, pushing up shuriken through his fist. “I’m going after the leaders.” The ninja then dashes right off the roof.
Without hesitation, Hanzo stands up and fires at an archer who noticed Widowmaker and was about to shoot. The arrow hits his head and the archer falls off of his ledge he was posted on. Hanzo jumps off the rooftop and quickly follows the woman.
Flinging his shuriken, Genji hits a samurai directly in the eyes just as he was about to slice a Talon soldier who was unarmed. The soldier quickly looks behind him and a metal fist meets his face, knocking him to the ground.
He runs a few more steps before two more samurai come charging in on the ninja. With his quick reaction timing, he takes out his wakizashi and blocks the first katana strike. Genji kicks the man in the chest pushing him back. Raising his short blade again, he blocks the other attack. Once blades make contact with each other, Genji pushes upwards causing the samurai to lose control of his grip and let’s go of his katana. The ninja slashes the man’s stomach and falls to the ground. Quickly turning back, he counters another attack from the first attacker and swipes across his neck.
“Here comes a new challenger!”
Looking up, Genji notices a pink object coming down from the sky at incredible speed. The object lands on two Triad members that were fleeing from their attackers, crushing them. What landed turned out to be D.Va in her Mekka suit.
“Time for you to go creepy looking samurai guys!” She says before firing her fusion cannons, gunning down a group of the soldiers.
“Aw man, I’m loving this!” Lucio shouts as he skates past Genji firing his sonic amplifier. “They ain’t coming across this bridge on our watch!”
Following close behind, Fareeha fires her rockets as she soars through the skies above the battlefield. Angela swooping in next to the ninja, swings at a Triad with her staff who was coming towards Genji with a metal baton. After hitting the man she unholsters her blaster, firing at a Talon soldier in the head.
“What are you doing here? I said move in on my mark.” Genji says to the doctor who was reloading.
“The gunfire and the explosions were more than enough for us to come in.” Angela says after firing more shots into a crowd of enemies. “What’s going on here Genji?”
More ships start to approach the scene as more samurai drop from them. The number of men opposing the attackers were dwindling down and soon they would focus on the Overwatch team.
“I can ask questions later. You need to get to those men and get-” Angela get’s cut off by one of the ships getting hit by one of Pharah’s rockets and crashed into the side of the tower.
“Genji, more of the same ships that our dropping off these men in armor are coming in from the distance.” Pharah says over the communicator. “I don’t know how much longer I can take care of them with these archers shooting at me. You need to hurry.”
“Genji go!” Angela shouts at the ninja pushing him towards the tea house. “Go! We’ll cover the two bridges.”
With that push, Genji rushes to the teahouse doorway. Stepping in he dodges a blade swing that nearly misses his head. The ninja quickly picks up his short blade once again blocking another strike. The strength of whoever was holding the other blade was overpowering and made Genji jump back. Standing up, he looks up to see the samurai in red armor walk through the doorway with two of his men behind him.
“Who are you? Why are you doing this?” Genji says as his grip on his wakizashi tightens.
“Kare o korose.” The dark robotic voice says.
The two samurai next to the person who was giving orders to them take out their katanas and charge at Genji. The ninja counters them both with ease, slashing one across the stomach and stabbing one through the neck.
“Enough of this.” Genji says looking up at the person in front of him. “Why are you doing this?”
“I’ve come to eliminate the men that would pose a threat to my master’s vision.” The red samurai says as stares down the ninja. “I can see that you and your acquaintances have taken out many of my men without breaking a sweat. You pose the same threat as these sicking dogs. I will personally be seeing your death by my blade.”
As the man in red brings up his katana, Genji pulls up his short blade. Both stand in silence, staring at each other as gunfire and explosions happen around them. With a blink of an eye, they both dash at each other.
Sparks fly as their blades made impact. Even in the heavy armor, the man in red was able to defend every attack Genji gave. They start moving slowly underneath the tower that was in the middle of the garden, blades still striking one another.
“You’re swordsmanship is impressive.” The dark robotic voice says as Genji jumps back to catch a moment of rest. “Even with a Wakizashi, you manage to defend every attack I make. Who ever taught you knew well.”
“Sir, Triads have been cleared.” A voice says over the red samurai’s comm. “There are a few of those masked men left, but the group that came unexpectedly are stopping our advance. We completed our orders, sending a shuttle for evac to your location.”
“Understood.” The samurai in red says keeping his eyes on Genji. “It seems our fight ends here. Maybe one day our paths will cross one another once again, and I will take your life.” The man then sheathes his katana and walks away from the ninja.
“No you’re not leavi-” Genji was quickly cut off by him deflecting an incoming arrow.
A ship descends down to the ground next to the tower. Two archers stand at the opening of the vehicle, bows drawn at the ninja. The samurai steps onto the ship and the doors close,
“No!” Genji shouts as he runs after the ship that was taking off.
He leaps into the air and dashes towards the shuttle, landing onto the side of it. Losing his grip, Genji quickly stabs into the metal of the ship holding for dear life.
Back on the ground, the strike team had the samurai assualt on a stand still past the bridges. Lucio and Pharah were on one side, D.Va and Angela on the other. They see that the attackers are slowly retreating, the strike team starts to advance.
Angela, who was ready to follow Hana in her mech, looks back hearing the sound of a ship taking off. Inspecting it closer, she notices Genji hanging by the handle of his short blade. “Genji!?” Angela exclaims through her comm. “What’re you doing?!”
Genji tries to pull himself up, but with the ship moving, it was impossible. With him letting go, the ship would get away and he wouldn’t get any answers on why these mysterious samurai’s attacking.
Without giving any thought, Genji immediately goes to his comms.“Pharah! Take down the ship that’s leaving the garden! We can’t let it escape!”
Pharah, who was flying over to the retreating forces, quickly stops and turns to see the ship Genji was talking about.
“Moving to intercept.” She says before rocketing towards the shuttle.
“Do not engage!” Angela frantically shouts. “I repeat, do not engage! Genji is on that shutt-”
“JUSTICE, RAINS FROM ABOVE” Pharah yells as she gets ahead of the ship and fires her rocket barrage.
The pilot of the ship tries to maneuver away from the projectiles, but a rocket hits an engine and the shuttle starts to spin out of control. Genji panics as he grips for his life, trying not to let go.
“GENJI!” Angela yells as she watches in horror.
Pharah’s eyes widen after hearing Angela through the comms. “Genji was on that shuttle?!”
The doctor starts to sprint towards the crashing ship. Her heart beats out of control and tears fly off her face with every step she takes. She gets to the edge of the building as the shuttle passes her. The heat from the burning engine warms her body for a second.
Not giving a second guess, Angela leaps from the edge. The wings from her valkyrie suit spread out and she pursues after the smoking shuttle.
“I’ve lost controls!” The shuttle pilot shouts as he’s frantically presses buttons. “Prepare for impact, sir!”
The ship starts to shift to left and is seconds of slamming into the tower. Using the handle of the blade, Genji pulls himself upwards and onto the top of the shuttle, extracting his short sword while doing so. Before he could catch his balance on the roof of the vehicle, the ship collides against the building and sends Genji off into a free fall with shards of glass and small debris with him. His metal back facing towards the ground, his arms and legs facing upwards as the ninja fell to the earth.
A few feet above him, the shuttle engine’s exploded. Genji saw the burning pieces of steel flying towards him and there was nothing he could do.
This was it, this was the end of Genji Shimada’s tale. A boy who survived the brink of death from the hand of his brother, a ninja assassin who killed off his own clan, a man who became a new person by the guidance of an omnic monk, was going to die without doing the thing he wanted to do the most before passing.
“GENJI!”
Just as debris was about to hit Genji, Angela swoops into the ninja and crashes through a window to one of the office’s in the middle of the tower. Their bodies rolled for a bit until stopping a few feet from some desks. Genji stared at the ceiling above for a couple of seconds as he laid on the floor, wondering what had happened.
“Genji!”
The ninja turned his head to the voice and saw a worried Angela running towards him. She kneels down next to him and places a hand on his shoulder. “Genji, are you alright?” Angela notices Genji trying to sit up straight so she places her other hand on his arm, gently pulling him. As he sits up, she slowly wraps her arms around his neck pulling him close into her. “I thought I’d I lost you.”
Genji smiles and places a hand on her lower back after hearing those words. “You saved me once again, Dr. Ziegler. Arigato.”
She lets go of the cyborg and stands up again, using her staff as support. She then gives Genji a hand helping him up off the floor. Both look over to the broken window and see smoke rising from below.
Genji walked over to the window and peers down to see the shuttle had crashed into the building that was close the the edge of the night market.
“We need to head down there. Find anything in that wreckage that could lead us to where we can find more info of this new threat.” Genji says turning back to Angela.
“Mercy to Orca, do you copy?” Angela says holding up two fingers against her ear. “I repeat, Mercy to Orca, do you copy?”
“They might still be focusing on giving air support to the ground team.”Genji says as he walks past the doctor and turns his head back to her. “The elevators out, so I hope you don’t mind going down a few flights of stairs, Dr. Ziegler.”
“We’re on the 50th floor, Genji.” Angela scoffs. “But I rather have my feet suffer than falling to my death.”
Genji gives out a small laugh before following Angela to the stairwell.
Finally reaching the night market once again, the ninja and doctor find the vacant marketplace now covered in burning debris from the shuttle and the pieces of building above. Walking further they see a hole in the traditional styled building that was at the edge of the market where the shuttle crashed into.
As they both got close to the entrance to the building, voices could be heard from the inside. Genji quickly grabs Angela by the arm and takes cover by the doorway.
“What’s goin-”
Angela gets cut off by Genji putting a finger on her lips. With that same finger, he puts it up against his mask where his lips would be motioning for her to be silent. He slowly moves closer to the doorway trying to get a peek of what was going on.
There were five talon soldiers rummaging through the pieces of the crashed shuttle that covered the back of the room.
“There’s nothing here.” One of the Talon says dropping a piece of metal back into the pile of debris. “The ships shredded into pieces. The other half of the ship is in the streets below and even that is completely destroyed.”
“We got orders to salvage anything we can bring back.” Another Talon soldier shouts across the room, as he paces back and forth, rifle in hand. “You rather be fighting upstairs? I don’t think so.”
“Sir, we got movement over here!”
The rest of the Talon soldiers stop what they’re doing and quickly run over to where pieces of steel were moving. Rifles aimed at the ready, waiting for what was to come.
A loud screech was heard that made everyone in the radius wince. In the pile of debris that the soldiers were aimed at, a piece of metal was tossed aside and a red figured appear from the rubble. Taking a closer look, Genji realized that the figure that emerged was the samurai that he was chasing after.
The screech slowly turned into agonizing yell and the samurai looking up to the ceiling as he rises out of the debris. Finally out of the mess, the men of Talon are in horror as they look upon the man that was in front of them.
The samurai’s armor was severely battle damaged, exposing parts of his body. Blood dripped from his left arm that laid limp. He looks down to meet with the men that stand before him. The only thing that could be heard was the samurai’s heaving breathing. With his good hand, the samurai slowly places it on his blades handle.
“Take him ou-”
The samurai lunges straight towards the commanding officer of the group and slices across his throat. Blood splatters from the open wound as the officer hits the ground. The remaining soldiers open fire. Both Genji and Angela watch as the wounded samurai takes on the Talon troops with ease in the state that he’s in. He pulls out his katana from the stomach of the last soldier and immediately falls to one knee.
Seeing that the samurai’s stamina is low, Genji decides to come out of hiding to confront him. Angela hesitant at first, follows close behind.
“You again?” The samurai says in between heavy breaths. “It seems the devil himself has blessed you.”
“Who are you and what business do you have with the triads.” Genji says staring at the man in front of him.
“Urgh-I am one of the thirteen Sukui Samurai.” The man in the red armor grunts as he stands up. “I was sent to eliminate a group that would tarnish my master's future plans.”
“Who sent you? What plans?”
With the samurai’s good arm, he raises his katana towards the ninja and the doctor. By doing so, Angela raises her pistol. Genji, who is still calm and collected, just stares at the man in front of him.
“Enough! I may have completed the task I was given, but you and your group killed many of my brothers. And for that, I’ll make sure I drain the blood from every single one of you!”
“Very well.” Genji says as he reaches for the handle of his Odachi. “Dr. Ziegler, would you please stand back.” Without hesitation, Angela takes a few steps back while still having the Samurai in her pistol’s sight.
Genji’s metallic hand grips the handle of his blade as he stares into the red eyes of the battle damaged samurai across the room.
“THIS IS IT FOR YOU, NINJA!” The Samurai yells as he charges towards Genji. “SHINU!”
“GEN-”
Angela is cut off as a giant spark quickly appears in the middle of the room, blinding her. Opening her eyes again, she’s startled by the sight of the damaged samurai now mere inches from her.
The sound of his katana echoed across the room as it hit the ground. Soon after the Samurai falls to his knees.
Looking down he notices a giant slash across his chestplate. His good hand touches the wound. When he see’s the blood coating his black gloved hand, the man is struck with fear. Blood is coughed up and starts to spill from an opening of his helmet. With one last agonizing groan, he falls dead onto the cold floor.
Angela breathes out a sigh of relief at the sight of the man in front of her, having the satisfaction of holstering her blaster. Taking her eyes off the dead body, she looks over across the room to see Genji walking over as he sheaths his sword.
“You’re not hurt, Dr Ziegler?” Genji asks.
“I”m alright, Genji.” Angela says with a reassuring smile. Her relieved face then turns serious when she kneels down and starts to inspect the body. “If we had Torbjorn here he would know what kind of metal this is, where it’s from.”
As she continued examining, Genji notices the katana beside him. Picking up the blade he feels the weight of it. It was much heavier than his Odachi, making the man an expert swordsman the way he was able to move the blade with such speed. Taking a closer look, something catches the ninja’s eyes that made the grip he had on the handle tighten in anger.
“I can’t find anything that would give us any leads on who these people are.” The doctor says standing back up again. She see’s Genji staring at the katana in his hands. “Something wrong?”
“The symbol on the guard.” Genji says giving Angela a closer look. “It belongs to the Shimada Clan.”
“What!?” Angela says wide eyed. “This can’t be! You made sure the Shimada’s were no more.”
“Urgh-”
The two look over to the entrance of the building to see a badly wounded Hanzo leaning against the doorway. His hand covering an area of his side that was drenched in blood.
“Hanzo!” Genji shouts as he runs to his brothers aid. He grabs his arm and puts it over his shoulder. “What happened?”
“I-urgh” Hanzo winces in pain. “I followed that woman through the offices. Took out the men with her, then had a confrontation with her. In the end she got the better of me, but I made sure she left with a remembrance of me.”
“Genji, he needs medical attention right away.” Angela says after quickly looking over Hanzo’s injury.
“No..” Hanzo grunts. “Leave me here so I can finally die..”
“Stubborn as always.” Genji sighs.
“Mercy to Orca do you copy?” Angela says through her communicator. “We need immediate evac on our location! We have a wounded.”
“This is Orca. We have your location and coming for pick up.”
Above them the sound of the Orca’s engines roared as the ship went across the sky and descended at the edge of the market. The doors open and Pharah runs out.
“Sorry about the wait.” Fareeha says as she catches up to the ninja and doctor. “The Chinese government decided to show up and then they started to fire upon us. Had to get the hell out of there and shake them off.”
“Quick, help Genji with him while I set up for an emergency surgery.” Angela says handing the side of Hanzo she was supporting off to Fareeha.
Genji sat at the tail end of the ship, back against the cold steel, still staring at the katana he picked up. Looking at the Shimada emblem, he felt frustrated. He made sure his former clan would never think about rising to power and becoming the biggest crime syndicate in Asia once more. But what was a samurai doing with a seal of a ninja assassin?
“Genji?”
Genji immediately takes his attention away from the katana to look up and see Angela standing in front of him. She was still wearing her white jumpsuit but the top half was unzipped and around her waist, showing off her black tank top with the Overwatch logo.
“Do you mind if I sit here?” She asks. Genji scoots over and the doctor takes a seat next to him.
“You look very tired, Dr. Ziegler.”
She sighed, “Well I did just come back from a deadly mission and performed a impromptu surgery. There were three bullets that were lodged into your brother. It was a miracle that none of them hit any major organs. They were easy to take out, it was the bleeding that I thought would never stop. He’s all better now and is resting on the cott.”
“Arigato.” Genji says nodding his head. “I knew you would be able to help. If you can save me from the brink of death, this must’ve been child's play.”
She chuckles at his remark. Noticing Genji was still looking at the blade in his hand, she could tell the ninja was experiencing different kinds of emotions.
“Hey,” She says placing her hand onto his that was facing upwards on his thigh. This makes him break away from his thoughts and directs his attention over to her. His green visor and her blue eyes meet. “We’ll figure this out and stop whoever these people are, together.”
Even though those words might’ve meant little to any other person, but for Genji, it meant a lot.
The ninja smiles underneath his mask as he places the katana onto the ground next to him. “Thank you, I needed to hear that from you.”
Genji, to Angela’s surprise, interlocks his metallic fingers between hers. The doctor blushes at the ninjas action. It was nice seeing Genji show signs of affection towards Angela instead of the other way around.
Across the ship Fareeha, D.Va, and Lucio were all gathered around the booth. All of them were exhausted from the mission except for Lucio who was on his tablet.
“What’re you doing there, Lucio?” Fareeha says as she places an ice pack onto her shoulder. Filling out a field report already?”
“Nah, those things bore me.” He says swiping his finger across his device. “The mood around here is dead. We need some tunes to lighten it up a bit, but at the same time, give us something to relax to.” He was still fascinated with the music he got from Genji’s tapes, he decided to look through those songs. Finding one that look promising, he pressed play and broadcasted it across the ship.
“Starry nights, sunny days, I always thought that love should be that way.”
“Oh, this is the jam baby!” Lucio exclaims. “Definitely some music to chill while flying back to the base.” He then looks over towards the back of the ship and see Genji and Angela sitting with one another. “This is also a little something for those two.”
Back at the tail end of the ship, Angela was bobbing to her head to the music that was playing softly through the ship's speakers. “This song sounds love-” Out of nowhere a yawn escapes her. “I’m sorry Genji, it’s been awhile since I last slept.”
Hearing this, Genji scoots closer to Angela motioning his head towards his shoulder. The doctor smiles and lays her head on top of his shoulder. She let’s out one more yawn before closing her eyes.
“Oooh-oooh baby, we've been a long, long way. And who's to say where we'll be tomorrow.”
“Genji,” Angela whispered. “I want to stay like this forever.”
“Well my heart says, no. But my mind says, it's so.”
Genji tilts his head a bit to respond to the doctor, but he notices that Angela had fallen asleep. Genji chuckles to himself, “Sweet dreams, Dr. Ziegler. You earned a much needed rest.”
As he was staring at the sleeping Angela, he noticed pieces of hair where dangling in the middle of her face. Trying not to wake her up, he uses the tips of his fingers and slowly moves the hairs to the side, gently touching her forehead.
As he was sliding his metallic fingers across her skin, something ignited deep down in his heart. A feeling of warmness and happiness came over him. For some reason with the touch of her face, he finally realized something.
“I’ve fallen for you… Angela…”
“That we've got a love, is it a love to stay. We've got a wham, bam shang-a-lang. And a sha-la-la-la-la-la thing.”
