Visualizing Sex as a Spectrum

Infographic reveals the startling complexity of sex determination

The project abruptly transformed into an exercise in visualizing complexity. The density of science underlying this phenomenon compelled a shift towards intersex. First, it seemed imperative to define a few terms. Sex, gender, and sexuality are all distinct from one another (although they are often related), and each exists on its own spectrum. Moreover, sex cannot be depicted as a simple, one-dimensional scale. In the world of DSDs, an individual may shift along the spectrum as development brings new biological factors into play.

How different are men and women? Not physically, but in terms of personality characteristics. What accounts for those differences? Nature? Nurture? Both? Both. In other words, being richer provides more opportunity to act the way you want to, and it turns out that this means men and women are more likely than less likely to take on gender-specific roles. In every case, people who live in richer countries have stronger gender preferences. In rich countries, where men and women have much more freedom to act as they please instead of obeying culturally-assigned gender roles, gender preferences are larger than they are in poorer countries.

Gender attitudes are the shackles which prevent the individualism to come out and flourish. This individualism, as explained by the Iqbal, is the height of humanity where humankind comes close to the creator. In individualism everyone has the capacity to create and prosper. It is not the gender which bars an individual from doing what they want. Everyday, every moment is an opportunity to assert yourself, dominate the world, do what you want but we take this opportunity to malign others, oppress them so they can remain slaves of our wants forever. This attitude needs to be changed. We should stop judging others on the base of super ego but we should give them a breathing space to see how nature unfolds it self and we should appreciate the beauty within.

What is Postgenderism?
