Fall transitions: Casa Atabex Ache' is Closing
After an extraordinary 15 years in the Mott Haven community of the South Bronx, at 471 East 140thst, in the Basement, Casa Atabex Ache will be officially be closing and moving out of its home.
It is with extremely sad hearts and tears in our eyes that we say good bye to our beloved community and our home.
For 15 years we laughed, we cried, we healed and we celebrated locally, nationally and internally women/ gender-non-conforming voices, minds, bodies and spirits.
For 15 years, we were a stand to end violence against women/ gender-non-conforming and the LGBTQ community, heal the depths of the impact that it has on our communities, families and lives.
For 15 years, we trained, we learned, we loved, we created families, communities and sisterhoods, and stood with autonomous communities and organizations from South America to the South Bronx and everything in between and we celebrated their global power and resiliency.
For 15 years, we saw baby girls turn into beautiful young women, young women turn into courageous young adults, spirits break out of the confines of gender to become their power selves, and adult turn into powerful wisdom elders and spiritual guides standing in their power and in their divine purpose taking over the world.
At first we resisted and we fought the losing of our space but as the time has gotten closer, in true Casa style we lit candles and prayed and we turned to spirit for answers. While this transition is bitter sweet, we trust that it is right on time in and in divine order. There is no coincidence that this transition is happening in the Fall, a time dedicated to change, death and spirit.
For the past couple of weeks the collective of Casa and the community of Mott Haven have come together to clean and pack. It has been one of the hardest things we have had to do so far. As we look through papers and pictures we are reminded of the power and the legacy that this space leaves both in this community and in all that have come to the space and used it as their home away from home. With tears in our eyes we want to say goodbye and say thank you for sharing your tears, joys, stories, and laughter with us, for trusting us to be your family, for trusting us to raise your daughters, for trusting us with your deepest darkest fears and stories untold. This Fall we celebrate you and acknowledge you because we could not have done 15 years without you!
We do not know what the future holds for us but we want to give you the opportunity to join us in closing the space. In the next few weeks we are asking you, our community to support us in a couple of important ways…
1.Starting Tuesday, Sept 24-Oct 15th: Come help pack and prepare us for the move! We will need volunteers to come in to help us lay the ground work for our move later this month.
2.Tuesday, September 24th- Wednesday, September 25th We are donating items from vases to material for art, books, altar supplies, fabric, office supplies etc
We will have more concrete dates and times but will be putting that information out week to week.
For more information or to let us know what time you are available to come through please contact us at 585-542-8770.
In love and light , The CASA Collective
