THAT sector of the Descendants fandom needs to accept that Mal is a demigod who can turn into a literal dragon instead of a “weak little girl”.
Like I want to see fics of her being a badass and saving her whimpy boyfriend when his nativity gets him in trouble, not her having to be saved by a “big strong man”.

Gender roles are just not my cup of tea!
Whoever told THAT portion of the descendants fandom that Mal was a “weak little girl in need of protection” (despite being a demi god, heiress to the underworld, daughter of the mistress of evil, and growing up on an island notorious for violence where she led the most powerful gang) and that Ben was her “strong masculine beast protector” (despite the fact that he’s benevolent, optimistic to the point of naïveté, gets spelled or kidnapped in every movie, and literally is shown to barely be able to hold his own in a fight) deserves jail time.
People need to stop enforcing traditional gender roles in media of weak woman strong man onto characters that literally ARE THE OPPOSITE OF TRADITIONAL GENDER ROLES.
Gender bending is sometimes a form of social activism undertaken to destroy rigid gender roles and defy sex-role stereotypes, notably in cases where the gender-nonconforming person finds these roles oppressive. It can be a reaction to, and protest of, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, or misandry.
