My Dad was one of my biggest supporters. I think he must have wondered what I was doing when I left corporate America and created first, Inspire, and then The Joy Practice®. But he Never Wavered in his Belief in me. This was never stated in words. But I FELT it. My dad passed away this summer. One month prior to his passing he purchased this painting here called Godhead, and another large painting to hang beside it. Dad was an architect. And he and my mom were particular about the art pieces they chose. So to have him want my artwork in his home felt so good to me. Godhead is now in our home. I do not know what is next for me. Losing two parents in 10 months time opens up the earth - this gaping hole feels really uncertain. I cannot SEE it but I Trust that I am building my own foundation to hold myself secure. This is a BLTO sandwich. As I ate it yesterday, tears streamed down my face. I'd never felt that way eating a sandwich. But this sandwich had on it, the last tomato from my dad's tomato plants. Well, to be exact, it was the last of my Dad's tomatoes. That may sound like the same thing. But it's not. An interesting thing has happened with my dad's tomato plants. We transported them to our house about two weeks after he died. They produced a good amount of fruit. Then, for his memorial service, I took four of the last tomatoes and placed them alongside the photos of dad. Later, I noticed the plants had some sort of infection and I pulled off two green caterpillars that were wreaking havoc. I sprayed some stuff on the plants, not sure at all what I was doing or if they would survive. What began to happen is that the bottom half seemed to be dying and the top half seemed to be growing and blossoming-thriving even. The tomato on this sandwich is the last tomato from the bottom half of the plants, the last of dad's tomatoes. My dad spoke to me as I ate that sandwich yesterday. He said, although I am gone physically, I am always a part of you. And you, Ellen, have got this. Just like those tomatoes on the top half of the plants that are now flourishing, you will continue to grow, to live, to love.
