i mean, there was a battle!! altea was a - very rich and stable - planet! taking it over must’ve been hard. everyone fought back! 

btw those are my altean oc’s, allura’s close friends. they were very loyal to allura and protected her to the very end. long live the princess

I don’t care what you say, your OCs are alive and well and leading a rebellion, unaware that allura is alive because otherwise they would be there with them. THEYRE ALIVE IN MY HEART OKAY. Jeez, you got me really attached to them

can you give us HCs about allura thinking about her dead friends??

oh sure!! i haven’t thought about them in quite some time. but oh boy this might hurt:

first of all, when allura was pointing out who in the team would get each lion, she couldn’t stop thinking about her friends. cause she was sure they’d be perfect for the job and they used to talk about this all the time.

later, when coran says: ‘they’re not the brightest the universe has to offer’ her face drops and she says, sadly: ‘no. but they are all we’ve got’. as an acceptance that she really doesn’t have her friends with her anymore. for good.

allura can’t help but to see many similarities between the team and her friends. all the time. like when shiro insisted that she needed to sleep when zarkon was onto them, cause that was such a genemo thing to do. he was all about the ‘get some sleep and you’ll be new by the morning’. or when hunk insisted in coming back to the balmera to save them saying things like it was so sad to see what the galra had done to those people. she knew dienis would’ve wanted to come back ride away, too. he couldn’t bare to see injustice. or when keith act by impulse, cause puella was just like him.

when they had to switch the lions again, she thought of her friends. when keith said he didn’t wanted to pilot black, her mind went to genemo. she knew it wouldn’t be something he’d wish for himself, but he’d do it, if the universe depended on it. to hear from someone they didn’t wanted to be the black paladin........ she felt kinda lost and weird.

also when red rejected her, she didn’t think about her dad, only. but puella, too. allura knew red would accept puella if she was there, and she felt like she failed both her dad and puella.

in the end, when she’s talking to lance and he asks about her pink armor, she says it’s a color to honor fallen warriors, right? she goes ‘i wear it to honor the paladins of old. and... - my friends - and shiro’. 

OH her bonding with blue!! when she’s trapped and asking what blue wants from her: ‘i... i need your help’. it’s when she finally gets it. virta was the friendly one on the group, always ready to take you by the hand and guiding you towards the right path. allura felt kinda foolish for not recognizing it sooner

but her thoughts on her friends weren’t just about the lions

when the castle of lions was destroyed, she felt it. when she went back inside to grab her stuff.... she realized there was nothing of her friends to take with her, all memory of them was gone. she talked about this with coran, and he just smiled at her: ‘everything about them, you already have within you. and you’ll never lose them. your friends, your parents, altea. they live in you’

when she found out about the altean colony, she couldn’t help but think about... what if her friends survived and they ended up there? they wouldn’t be alive for sure, but maybe they had a long life..... children..... a better ending. she loves the idea of dienis and virta getting married and having the family she knew they’d have and love. or amata with her projects of travelling around the universe... but in the back of her mind, she knew they wouldn’t bow to zarkon in the battle for altea. they wouldn’t have surrended. 

when she was at oriande with the white lion, she gives her life up to it, cause she knew that’s what her friends did for her and altea

If your Altean ocs had lived, who would pilot which lion? Would Amata be Green since you already established her parallel to Pidge?

that’s a tough question! but easy for some of them, at the same time ahaha. ok let’s go:

black lion: this is easy: genemo, for sure. he’s not someone you’d look once and think he’s ‘the’ leader, but he’s fit for black. he’s super responsible and naturally good at everything he puts his mind on. he works hard for everything he has. genemo is that guy who would drop anything he’s doing to check if you’re doing okay - in case you’re showing you’re having a bad day. he takes interest in those people, he just cares so much for the whole bunch, and certainly, would do anything to protect them (that’s one of the reasons he died before everyone else in their group). he is a leader. a person his friends would follow without hesitation. he’s always on the front lines.

green lion: you got this one right: amata! i mean, she has all the qualities required to pilot green. amata is the brains in the group, she’s also super curious about everything. green lion all over. but unlike pidge, she’s pretty connected to the nature and everything related to with, in most cases - as i said once, she really loves animals, but they just don’t let her come near them ahah. she admires botany and it’s very interested in it. most of her projects are related to it somehow.

blue lion: this is where it gets hard. cause the three characters i have left fit for the three remaining lions and aaa. but thinking about it: blue would be piloted by virta. she’s the most friendly person in their group. she builds deep connections with people so easily, and it’s her fault they’re all friends. she’s much like genemo in this case, cause she worries about each one of her friends so much and she’s always there so support them. she’s that girl in school who knows most people by their names and is just so nice to have around. i mean, you can count on her. she’s super supportive. virta is the link between her friends and the unkown. that’s why she would pilot blue.

yellow lion: now, since virta is piloting blue, yellow is for dienis. ‘someone who puts the needs of others above his own’. this quote of allura describes dienis. he’s just the sweetest and most selfless person ever. he volunteers to teach kids the altean sign language whenever he’s got time - and when he doesn’t, he makes time. and even tho he’s so gentle, he can be fierce whenever his friends need him. he’s super protective, especially with virta. he wouldn’t hurt a fly, but he would kick some ass if someone dares to touch his group. kind, skilled and amazing, that’s dienis.

red lion: now, we have puella on red. allura points out the red lion is temperamental, and the most difficult to master, and puella has experience in ‘taming beasts’ because all of her pets. her secret is: she doesn’t really tame them. she join forces with them, and that makes her stronger everyday. she’s not really temperamental, she’s actually pretty chill, but she trusts on instincts more, and she doesn’t really think before she acts. she has this impulsive behaviour that makes her perfect for red!

so like to cheer both of us up could you give us some headcanons maybe?? what do her friends like? are they as composed as her or are they laidback & call king Alfor dad? was Allura allowed to have them all over for sleepovers? If so, what goes down at them sleepovers?

♡OH YES headcanons time!! ok i’ll be using their names here, so go to my first post to indentify them while you’re reading it! ok let’s go:

they didn’t meet each other all at once. virta and amata were childhood friends, and they kinda put the group together. amata’s father was an alchemist who used to worked alongside king alfor, so she kinda always had more access to the castle - to allura. they became friends when allura was 10 and amata introduced her to virta. puella and genemo came after that, and dienis was the last one

they love to train together. remember that thing allura said in 01x02? ‘that combat simulator was set at a level fit for an altean child!’ well, she was outraged to see the paladins couldn’t handle the simulator when she and her friends owned it by the time they were 11! it’s their favorite group activity

allura is 100% into dienis x virta. she was the only one to notice there was something going on between them. she teased virta so much for her to confess it when she found her virta was learning more about altean sign language - dienis doesn’t speak. allura was all like ‘ok. whatever you say…………just know that i wanna be your bridesmaid’

all of them call allura ‘princess’ as a tease. unless it’s a serious matter. like when someone doubt her leadership skills. when something like that happens they get all protective: ‘how dare you contest her decision? she’s our princess’. allura insists that everyone has to right to speak out if they disagree with her, even so, her friends are not taking it. they know how good of a leader she is

king alfor really likes them. they all bow when they pass him by the halls, but at the same time they say stuff like ‘my king, maybe it’s time for a shaving’ or just ‘great beard, your majesty!”

sleepovers!!! they love doing sleepovers at the castle cause, in the middle of the night, they just wander around in silence, scaring each other by saying the castle is haunted. when she was younger, allura was all like ‘my house is not haunted’ and puella replied ‘all castles are haunted, allura. sorry’

puella has the biggest crush on allura

genemo is the voice of reason - yep, not allura. once, at one of their sleepovers, virta had an idea to get a flight pod and go to the space mall to buy some random stuff. everyone was like ‘yea!! that’s the best idea ever!!” and genemo had to get all big brother on them saying it was too dangerous bla bla. he only agreed on coming along when allura promised they wouldn’t do anything wrong there and they’d be back before sunrise. ‘c’mon genemo! i just need something sparkly!”

btw genemo is king alfor’s favorite, for being the responsible one

they went along in a lot of allura and alfor’s trips to another planets - but only the short ones. alteans are great explorers and diplomats! amata loves going on those!! her dream is to travel through the galaxies and beyond!

they play voltron!! when king alfor created voltron, that was the hottest topic in altea, so the kids are all about it. amata is the green paladin, dienis is the yellow, virta is the blue and puella is the red one. everyone was like ‘allura should be the black paladin!! sorry genemo’ and he is okay with it cause hell yea allura should be the black paladin! 

btw in the first episode…… allura explaining the qualities of each paladin to the team……… thinking about her old friends playing together………. thinking about THEIR qualities

also, in the same ep: when coran was ‘they are not the brightest the universe has to offer’ and allura ‘no. but they are all we’ve got’ she was thinking about her friends. they really were the brightest, they would’ve been excellent paladins

well, i think that’s it! ended it in a little sad way, but well ): oh and thank you for asking this!! so fun to write it ♡

genemo:

he’s the responsible one, as i said in my last post. he’s the ‘that doesn’t sound good’ guy. he’s close friends with puella - with all of them, but those two met each other before. also, he’s an excelent fighter. skilled and silent. he does it like it’s nothing, and he’s always helping the others out in their training sessions. after the group came together, he became super close friends with dienis, since he was the only one there who knew the altean sign language (aside from puella). genemo is a sword guy, while most alteans rather fight with spears etc. he’s also a great listener. when someone on the group is feeling down, he’s the first one to notice and to try to make that person feel better. - he was the first one of the group to die on the battle. he never surrended.

amata:

she’s a genius, tho she doesn’t really brag about it. she’s just a natural at everything she does and her dream is to travel around the galaxies some day and to be an alchemist, like her father. she admires honerva very much, always had. oh and - poor girl - she’s that kinda of person who loves animals and wants to get along with them, but just can’t. they won’t let her, for some reason. she stays on the lab with her technology and science, cause she belongs there, at the end. amata and virta are childhood friends, so they have the same sense of humor and sometimes they come up with little jokes that no one else understands. - she was the second one to die in the battle, when the galra asked for allura’s location and she didn’t tell them.

dienis:

he’s the cutest. literally. a cute tall child. he’s puella’s baby brother, and admires her very much. he’s very very very smart and skilled with a spear. allura loves training with him for that. also, he has the most gentle heart ever, it’s just nice to have him around. dienis is the tallest one on the group - puella is almost as tall as him, but still. he was born mute and everyone in the group who didn’t know the altean sign language, rushed to learn it as soon as they met him. allura thought that this is very important, and insisted that every altean should learn it too. this way, communication wouldn’t be a problem to anybody anymore. oh and dienis is very protective over his friends. truly a great guy to have in your life. - he was the third one to die, a little after hugging his sister in a goodbye, as she ran to protect coran and allura.

virta:

virta is a sunshine. she fiils the room with her laughter. and she loves to talk. when she’s too happy: talk. too nervous: talk. sad. angry. hungry, sleepy. !! she’s a talker. for that, she’s great with people. she’s the only person who’s good at public speeches and she actully enjoys it. allura even asked her for help once, when she needed to give a ‘princess speech’ at a meeting. virta is full of life and energy. she fights back, she loves to debate about stuff. she says that makes a person smarter. virta is also very loyal to her friends and the people she believes in. she encourage them and truly has faith in them. also, she doesn’t give up. - she died just a little after dienis. they were fighting side by side.

puella:

the oldest one in the group. she tries to be responsible sometimes (but hey, that’s why they have genemo)! she’s an adventurer. she loves traveling with allura on her diplomatic missions, as much as amata does. but unlike amata, she’s a animal expert. they love her and she loves them. she can ride any beast, and she can pilot anything. she has a huge stone collection and a weapons closet. mostly old ( -caham-, antique) spears and daggers. she’s a very skilled fighter, and unlike her friends who are specialized in one weapon, she is at all of them. just gifted! she loves her brother more than anything in the world it almost destroyed her to leave him behind in the battle. but she truly had no choice. - she was the last one to die. she stood alone, knowing everyone else was gone. but she needed to. for the princess, and for altea.

everyone in the group is so tall! virta is the short one and she’s about keith’s height - maybe keith is just a little bit taller but still

dienis has a long scar on his leg cause once, when puella was playing with some big ass animals she loved to ride, he got in the way accidently and puella couldn’t stop in time. it bit him

ever since, he can’t even get close to one of those

dienis and virta are the softest couple ever. people just love to be in their presence cause they just radiate love

amata has 5 brothers. she’s a middle child and the only one who wants to follow in her dad’s footsteps as an alchemist. she’s used to a lot of loud people running around her while she’s trying to study or doing anything else, really. so when she’s with her friends and they’re being all noisy and annoying, she’s pretty good at ignoring them. she’s just used to shut down the rest of the world and concentrate only on what she’s doing

the group knows that and they bet on how long she’ll take to notice there’s someone calling her name, sometimes. their record was 37 times

it’s pretty weird, but puella names everything she loves. her daggers, her pets - she has a lot of pets!! - even her food. dienis once caught her calling talking to her lunch ‘you’re so good. i’m gonna call you boonom’
