Solicited advice was taken

Talked a couple at PetStore out of an impulse baby ball python while we were chatting about reptile keeping in general, so that was nice. (I think the wife was taken aback by the cost of tanks and was looking for backup, and I'd already been nearby cooing at the baby snakes.)

Told em about bins (cheap! big!) and humidity retention vs glass tanks, and that ReptiCon was a thing, and good for interacting with adult snakes to confirm they're alright with how big ball pythons get. We all had a pleasant interaction and they left without buying the snake.

Anyway here's Carol's new bin. She's doubled in size since we got her, so it was time to upgrade.

Bit a visual mess, but I wanted to give her a ton of cover and climbing space. I used bird toy ladders as the main support structure, and put her old cork barks and sticks in there for familiar smells.

She was skeptical at first, but hopefully she likes it!

Well, I scrolled through 2018 requesting adult content flag removals for maybe 20 posts. Not doing that for 5 years of daily lizard pics, so if the older stuff is flagged it'll stay that way.

So recently I asked for some recommendations for old-school sci fi with a positive vibe. I got some interesting suggestions. One of them was the Vorkosigan Saga books, so I read the first one. The person who recommended it did mention it was a "space romance" so I wasn't totally caught off guard. Fortunately it was mostly action focused, not romance focused. However I will say the 'science fiction' part seemed to be mostly like, "Russians and Americans but In Space!' There are ships and planets and earth even gets a mention but overall it's not terribly sci-fi esque.

The story was pretty good though. The ending didn't do much for me, but that's just me personally, I liked the first half more than the second. Tbh it gave me...serious fanficcy vibes despite being from the 80s. Well, fanfiction existed in the 80s, however it's probably less 'fanfic' and more 'romance is just like that.' I could seriously see people using it as a crossover with other stuff for their favorite OTPs though. Actually I should go check that, now I'm curious.

Will I read the next one? I dunno. I have Hyperion on hold so I'm gonna try that I think. We'll see.

Married to a morning person

My husband wobbled into the kitchen this morning at 6:30am to find me making bread and watching The Great British Baking Show Masterclass.

My internal clock has decided that I'm to wake up every day at 5:45am. Thanks?? The older I get the earlier I wake up.

Ehhhhh I was hoping to finish this fic before the new year but lol. I finished the Dazai & Yosano scene and started the last scene though, and I did like 1.5k before toodling off to watch the star war (opinion: eh. Pacing wasn't great I don't think, it felt too much like the last section was tacked on after the natural end point. Cried over Carrie Fisher tho). Maybe if the god of Starbucks is kind to me I'll be able to finish it tomorrow, ie before work eats me alive again. I've written 6 or 7 k in a week, so I guess I feel decent about going into the new year. Bye 2017.
