Re: losing your own poll -- it's only that we know and love you. Last week when you said 6K and more than half written I mentally went "we're getting a chapter split because 14K is a lot for one chapter."

Listen, you know how Leon spent the second half of the contract KNOWING he had to end it but being too paralyzed with indecision to actually commit to it?

Yeah I've known 40 is in fact 40+41 for a while now but I didn't want to admit to it. YOU ARE NOT WRONG about that early evidence of the fact. The cons (most critically @apollothyme will not-so-vaguepost sadly about AbaC being pushed back ONE MORE WEEK sorry girl) are definitely outweighed by the pros (better pacing, more time to edit the tricky second half, a much more relaxing vacation as I won't be trying to write a chapter AND go on vacation with my kid and dog, but no husband).

BUT I WAS SO SURE. Now I'm gonna have to change the chapter count on AO3. That's the biggest con tbh. 😅

Ahaha well he's got the tragic backstory and the hulking brooding shape and bone structure for it, I will GRANT YOU THAT. But I'm not sure I'd describe him as "a man proud, moody, cynical, with defiance on his brow, and misery in his heart, a scorner of his kind, implacable in revenge, yet capable of deep and strong affection" (ty wikipedia).

Proud, capable of deep and strong affection, and I suppose he seemed rather moody at times, but I think Connor's the cynical defiant one who is a scorner of his kind.

They both serve up mood & attitude in their own way, I suppose.

absurd feeling to have somewhat sheepishly gone to friends and said "I know this is crazy but I've really been feeling the Jane Austen vibes when writing this last bit of General Dynamics" and have long conversations about the ways in which GD, oddly, does fit into Austen tradition of romance despite being, again, a bio-BDSM hockey RPF, and challenge them to find the line that I was SPECIFICALLY feeling P&P vibes over and then to have in fact TWO commenters (one, two) bring up Austen on chapter 39, including one not just saying "hey are you an Austen fan" but call out that line that had made me flash back to a key romantic confessional scene in P&P so I'm NOT crazy GD is an Austenian romance in extreme disguise

Twas thrilling to get the nipple sucking in 39. When Leon left, I’ll admit my reaction was “what about the nipples? What about the butt plug????” Getting to get one of those foretold sex events actual happen was great! wonderful character growth and emotion and romance and yadda yadda but the NIPPLES

Ahaha anon you speak my language. I was SO ANNOYED at myself that I put all those things on the menu and then ran out of runway before the contract had to end. I drew it out as LONG AS I COULD but like Leon, I had to end it. 😭 Part of the reason I struggled with chapter 30 was I wanted to put in MANY SUCH THINGS that had no place in it and @linskywords had to talk me down and remind me I can write timestamps and stuff. 😅

Anyway I was very pleased I snuck in at least the nipple sucking reference into chapter 39. The butt plug... Well I guess we'll see what I can fit into 40 & 41. 👀
